I've been really looking forward to this place for a while, and while it was pretty good overall I left feeling a bit underwhelmed.
I will start by saying the service and atmosphere were excellent. Everyone was very attentive and friendly, and the renovations and decor inside were very well done. The music was a little loud but we also happened to be sitting right under a speaker so it may have been fine elsewhere.
The house margaritas were decent, and the chips, salsa, and queso were all very good. I'd definitely like to try the flavored or specialty margaritas next time and see if they're a step up. For mains we had carne asada tacos and birria tacos. The meat was cooked really well but didn't have much seasoning or flavor, and the corn tortillas were very generic and kind of fell apart. For the birria tacos the tortillas were dipped in the broth but they didn't have the crisp and flavor I was expecting. Rice and beans were good and traditional. For dessert we had a crispy sopapilla with ice cream that was very tasty and not too heavy.
Overall I wasn't blown away but it was decent food and excellent service for a good price. I think there are a few things they could do that would really set them apart from other Mexican restaurants in the area, but I will be...
Read moreMy wife and I dined here recently for the first time. This place is a nice find! Food portions are huge and prices are very reasonable. It's a small place, nut nicely done. I had the Chicken Tortilla Soup (enough for a dinner on its own). It was different than ones I have had elsewhere, but so good! I had to take some home to leave room for my entree (also took some home) and dessert. I had the Burrito Mexico which was delicious, as was the Miguel Special that my wife enjoyed. The only complaint I have is that the burrito came with three different sauces and they were very light on the sauce. Typically, when you get sauce on a burrito, it is a healthy ladle full. These sauces seemed to be put on with a tablespoon, which led to the burrito being a bit drier than I like. Don't get me wrong, it tasted great, however with a little more of the sauces it would have been perfect! As to the service, they were very friendly and helpful, but a bit slow towards the end of the meal. We had a long wait to order dessert and again to get the check. They were starting to get busier at that time, so I understand, but it's still a pain to wait for your bill when you are ready to go. Overall, this was a great find and we will...
Read moreI like El Viajero but the first time the directions for my Togo order were not followed. I did not want tomatoes cheese or sour cream on the burrito or cheese sauce, ironically I actually drew a picture. The second time I ordered the spinach and cheese dip which was exactly that, spinach and what tasted like American cheese. The spinach was kind of stringy. This is probably really authentic Mexican food and I am ruined by food I have had in Mexico with my parents over the Arizona border. It didn't seem spicy? The third time I ordered a taco salad with grilled chicken that was out of this world. Very good, delicious! And I do recommend the fried ice cream. Today I had the Steak Veracruz, it was about a 1/4 of an inch thick, cooked medium well (they didn't ask) with some grisle and the potato was smaller than a tennis ball. I was disappointed. I want to like this restaurant. The staff is friendly. The prices seem good. The appetizer that my son and I got was the super nachos and it was delicious! He ordered chicken nachos and loved them. They did serve them in white flour tortillas if you want them in a taco shell I think you must ask. Lovely place we will be back. We dined in and also...
