Anchor Room — Restaurant in Hopewell

We have been wanting to try the Anchor Room for some time because it is a fixture of the hopewell community. I doubt we will ever return. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and an "all the meats" pizza. Both were overcooked to our taste. Also, the flavor was mediocre due to a bland sauce.

One in our party ordered an appetizer sampler, it was as described. They ordered more hot wings later because they did not like the pizza. They said the wings were very hot and they liked them.

One major thing that kept us from trying this restaurant for so long is the policy that they do not accept debit or credit cards. We never carry cash. They have an ATM on premises but of course there is a service charge.

Prices were reasonable and service was good. However they only had one person waiting tables, bartending, and being cashier. The restaurant almost filled up and even though she was quick and efficient she became overwhelmed. Not her fault. They needed another person.

If I could write a review and leave 0 stars that’s what I would do. I was a loyal customer to the Original Anchor room so decided to come in Saturday for old times sake. Boy were we disappointed. We went in around 8pm on Saturday with high expectations. It didn’t take long to be disappointed and decide we were never returning. Not only was the dough on the pizza still frozen but apparently drinks come from a can and cost $3 per refill which wasn’t told to me until I got my check. I asked to speak to the manager who seemed intoxicated herself which only lead to a childlike tantrum and no resolution. We had such high hopes coming back but unfortunately we will not be returning. It is definitely not what it used to be...

The pizza was decent but as for the wings they could use a new recipe.I called ahead and ordered carry out. The staff was friendly but walking in as a young black man I felt very out of place. The older white crowd that was gathered there that night didn’t welcome me or make the feeling of being out of place any better as they starred at me as I walked in through the dining area as to say what the hell is he doing in here...
