It breaks my heart to re review this restaurant that has been so dear to me for several years. It was one of the only good authentic Mexican restaurants which as a Mexican-American guy from southern California is in short supply and hard to find. We went there probably 2-3 times per month for a period of about 4 years. Well, for about a year now, it's truly gone downhill. They are constantly out of product, started taking a lot of shortcuts with preparation, and worst of all, service has gone completely bad. Again, this is not a "one or twice" thing. This is now their standard. Lazy service, inaccuracies with orders, and literally disgusting cleaning standards in the dining room and restrooms. On top of everything, prices are going UP! A simple meal for two is over $40 at this point for two entrees and 2 drinks for simple food. I won't go so far as to say the food is bad. It's still decent, but definitely lackluster over the last few months. In any case, the drive is long, not near any other points of interest, and i cannot continue putting time and money here after so many consecutive bad experiences. 1 or 2 is one thing, but after this many, i can only assume that the restaurant has fundamentally changed. I wish them well but will...
Read moreIf you want no frills , with down to earth ,genuine and friendly service, then El Rey De Oro should be on your checklist for a decent Mexican /Salvadoran fare. They now have dine in service after all the restrictions, and they have delivery and take out as well.
The decor is simple with emphasis on their culture through the Display of both Mexican and Salvadoran flags that adorn one of the walls. A giant menu just outside the restaurant displays all the items and straightforwardly broken down according to specific items.
I had their Pupusas before and the flavors were spot on; during this last visit, I went with gusto for their Chorizo Burrito....Do Not pass this up! Crisp shredded lettuce and a very fragrant refried beans were served on the side. I requested to skip the guacamole and they gladly accommodated my request, and gladly gave me a good amount side of the rice filling on the side . The prices were fair and a good value for the amount of food you get. Horsham has a nice simple gem in their neck of the...
Read moreI was a bit disappointed by the pupusas (had the loroco and queso), a bit bland compared to what I usually get in the DMV. And the Curtido is not up to par. The taste was spot on, but it was mostly onions and carrots with not much cabbage.
The tacos (I had the fish and lengua) was great. The taco de lengua was perfect! The fish taco, I've had better thought his one wasn't as bad.
In case you are wondering, the horchata they serve is Mexican style, not Salvadoran horchata de morro. I personally prefer Mexican style, but it's good to know which one a restaurant serves so that you don't get disappointed.
The people are nice, service is great, and the place is clean. I would definitely go back and try the...
