I was incredibly excited to try this place as Korean Seafood BBQ is something that is definitely new to Houston's already diverse food scene!
The restaurant itself is very spacious and clean with lots of eye catching nautical decor. There's plenty of parking as well.
My family decided to order the chief set, fresh eel, and live lobster. For the sides that came with the set, there were steamed eggs, corn cheese, tteokbokki, and spicy cold noodles. The steamed eggs were fluffy, the corn cheese had a nice texture and sweetness to it, and the cold noodles were light, tangy, and refreshing. The tteokbokki had a slight kick to it which was quite delicious.
As for the chief set, it was nice to sit back and watch our shellfish be cooked for us. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly to medium, resulting in very juicy bites. Out of the three sauces that you get, my favorite was the Thai chili one! It's sour, slightly sweet, and had a pleasant spice to it that paired perfectly with the shellfish. My favorite shellfish was probably the scallops with cheese. The roasted potatoes were a nice touch as well.
Everyone raves about the fresh eel here so of course we had to try that! They torched and grilled it for us to make it super crispy, and we got to make perilla leaf wraps out of the eel using radish, garlic, jalapeño, onion, and ginger. The eel was so crispy and delicious! The fresh vegetables truly enhanced the flavor of the eel. I'm a sucker for perilla leaves and you don't get to see them at many Korean restaurants so I was very satisfied. The eel is what I would recommend the most from here.
We also got to try the live lobster. They showcased it to us in a treasure chest which made for quite the nice photo! They cooked and broke it down for us in the back. They made picking the lobster meat out of the shell a very easy task for us. The lobster meat was deliciously sweet and paired well with the garlic butter sauce that was to die for!
The kalguksu at the end of our savory courses was a pleasant surprise. The broth was so light and comforting. I loved the chewy texture of the noodles. I would've happily eaten many more pots of the kalguksu if given the opportunity.
As for dessert, we got to do a half and half strawberry matcha bingsu. It came with jelly, mochi, almonds, and fresh strawberries. It was just the right amount of sweetness and a very refreshing end to our meal.
Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Burnin' Shell. I had some of the freshest seafood ever, and it was a very memorable dinner. The servers here were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I highly recommend this restaurant for a one of a kind...
Read moreCool new HIGH END, Korean seafood BBQ restaurant in Htown! First of its concept that I’ve seen in the greater metro area.
Very well done decor, with intentionally very nautical vibes. You can tell a lot of thought, creativity, and diligence went into the construction of this place.
The food is very good, but expect to spend some money here. This is a great place for large groups, celebrations, or impressing a date with seafood. I prefer this over the over-done and cliche sushi dates. This is just as fancy, if not more so, while being much more unique.
Similar to KBBQ, there is a grill at each table where the food is cooked. The servers do all the cooking though, so you can just kick back and enjoy the atmosphere with your group as well as a potential fire show !
My favorite part of this restaurant has to be the bar though. The vibe at the bar is very kicked back and friendly, and the bar tender I’ve seen the few times I’ve been here is SUPER CUTE. She is very friendly and a great conversation holder if that’s your thing, but will also leave you alone if you’re not wanting conversation. She had let me watch all of the NBA play off games, switching the large TV from K-pop dancing to sports upon request. They seem to have a good amount of unique special to cocktails, as well as the ability to serve drinks unlisted on their cocktail menu. The bartender is definitely generous with her pours, making her even cuter after each drink.
Definitely will come back to eat when I celebrate special occasions, and probably more regularly just to visit the bar and...
Read moreBurnin’ Shell in Houston is a must-visit if you’re into bold, flavorful seafood with a modern twist. From the moment we arrived, the vibe was upbeat and welcoming casual but with a cool edge. It's the kind of place that feels perfect for a laid-back dinner with friends or a fun weekend food run.
We ordered the Captain Set, and it truly delivered. Every piece of seafood was fresh, perfectly cooked, and seasoned just right not too salty, not too spicy, just a flavorful balance that makes you want to keep digging in. The variety in the set was great, and everything came out hot and beautifully plated. You can tell they really care about both taste and presentation here.
The staff was super friendly and efficient. They explained the menu clearly, checked in often, and made sure we had everything we needed. Service was fast but not rushed, and the overall energy was fun and easygoing.
