Stopped by ECK Bakery around 9:30 AM on a Saturday, which is when they open. We were the only ones there but shortly joined by a few other patrons, so not too busy. There was only one worker though so be patient. We ordered a bunch of egg tarts which were $1.75 each. The shell was perfectly flaky and the contents were soft, really yummy and hard to beat. The mango mochi was a surprising treat ($1.75 each), not chewy was traditional mochi but soft gelatin-like texture with mango chunks inside. This was absolutely delicious and quite a unique offering. They're located in the refrigerator by the way. They actually cleared out their inventory of these while we were there. They said they'd have more maybe in the afternoon so FYI limited inventory. There are tables inside you can sit to enjoy the baked goods. CASH ONLY!

The egg tarts here are $2 each and absolutely delicious—crispy, flaky, and filled with a rich, aromatic custard. They are some of the best I’ve had and are definitely worth trying. Aside from egg tarts, the shop offers a variety of other items, including curry puffs and zongzi, giving you plenty of options to explore if you’re looking for something savory or unique. The shop itself is quite simple and unpretentious, focusing more on the food than the ambiance. Don’t expect a warm greeting or small talk, but the service is efficient. One thing to note is that they do accept card payments, but there’s a 2.5% processing fee, so it might be worth bringing cash if you want to avoid the extra charge. Overall, a great spot for anyone looking for tasty baked goods or snacks!

Best egg tart I've ever had. Disclaimer is that I still have yet to visit Golden Gate Bakery in SF (3 failed attempts so far since they're always on vacation during the week of Christmas), but for cheap, good, relatively accessible, and freshly baked egg tarts, Eck is a definite winner. If you're not in a rush, make sure to ask if they'll have a fresh batch ready soon. In my opinion, it's worth waiting 10-15 minutes for a warm one that melts in your mouth. The crust on these bad boys is flaky and light-- none of that sandcastle-y tasting stuff you'll find at the dim sum places around the corner. If you want to try something a little different, they also offer egg white egg tarts, but they do not compare to the full cholesterol full egg version. So much more depth and creaminess! The interior and vibe leaves much to be desired. They have a bunch of weird sun-faded Disney character pinata things hung up and piles of boxes and supplies in the corners. Basically, it always looks like they're doing renovations or moving or something. Seating is kinda limited, with just two long rectangular tables and a few chairs. But whatever. You come here to grub legit egg tarts, not for fancy pastries on doilies. Hands down one of the best ways you can spend a dollar. ;)...

Don't let appearances fool you. This bakery may not have all the frills and decor as others do in Chinatown but they spend their time and money on the right things - creating super tasty pastries and pate chauds (puffs). I have been hearing about their egg custard tarts and for a couple of years now I have been trying others, always falling a bit short. But this weekend we grabbed a few and O.M.G. These are legit amazing. The pastry is thicker, flakier, perfectly supporting the custard inside. Not too sweet. Just right. And they have char sui pate chauds that are just CRAZY yumminess. You can't find many place that will make it with roast pork...just just steamed pork or chicken. Drive off of the main drag and go here. Get one of everything. Find happiness where you...
