Our experience was good but we were overcharged and I felt the manager was glib, so I gave one star.
We had a variety of food and all of it was good. One of our diners can not eat anything spicy and they were left out in the cold, but if you don't eat spicy you already know that BBQ isn't good for you. BBQ sauce, dry pulled pork sandwich, and dirty rice, all too spicy for one of our diners.
They have a big sign out front offering a pulled pork sandwich for $7.95 after 4pm in lights. Nowadays, and at this restaurant, that's a bargain. They charged me $10.95 for it, but I didn't notice. Later I went back and bought one to go, and they again charged me $10.95 but this time I noticed, and then I checked my earlier receipt (lucky I still had it) and saw the earlier overcharge. The manager was called and he refunded me without complaint, that took him maybe ten long minutes of my time. When he presented my new receipts, he made a lame apology, "Here you go, sorry about that." As I inspected my new receipts to make sure all was in order, in the course of a little chit-chat, he white washed the situation and said "It's only a dollar difference, but oh well, it's worth the trouble to get it back." Hard to know if he was sarcastic or not, we'll give him the benefit of the doubt. However, it wasn't a dollar, it was a total of $6 plus tax. After I was satisfied that all was correct, I looked up at him and said "So...what happened?" He said "What do you mean?" I said "Why was I overcharged?" He made a hella-lame excuse: "She just forgot and punched in the wrong code, that's all." That qualifies as "glib" in my book, and thus the negative review. It just depends on how big a deal you want to make out of getting overcharged. I think in our country that prides itself on a lack of corruption and the honor system, overcharging is a big deal, and white washing mistakes, lying (because it wasn't one dollar and the manager, of all people, knows that), lame apologies, and disingenuous excuses starts off as a big deal and only snowballs from there. Now that I think about it, shouldn't that computerized cash register have charged the correct price on its own accord? That makes it not just a mistake from one cashier and a cover up from a complicit manger, but a corporate policy of overcharging. Plus, where is my compensation for that long ten...
Read moreAs I sit up at 3am after eating ribs and brisket at this ravaged place, I beg God not to let me die from the worst stomach ache I've had in 10 years.
I give this a one star rating for flavor only.
As a seventh generation Texan, and a brisket connoissuer this will mark the very first time in my life that brisket and ribs have sickened me.
The place was out of macaroni and cheese, baked potatoes, no wait, here they are; now out of slaw, no wait, here is a mystery scoop from a mystery tub.
They were out of everything it seemed, with fatigued service, that I will blame on the unusually large Houston Rodeo crowd on a Sunday evening.
The pork ribs tasted wonderful, and were cooked to perfection, but I'm not sure if it's the rub on the meat, shoddy food handling practices, or mustard BBQ sauce that did it but I am officially SICK.
How can ANY BBQ joint do this???
The loaded baked potato was typical, and something I ordered only because I wanted to get through the line and I was sick of hearing employees explain how the line was... out of food.
The brisket tasted good, but was dry, and it was weird ordering from their menu that only labeled the brisket as "beef" and not "brisket", which I found weird as brisket is brisket on a menu. Or, whatever it may be here, but I am so sick, and my belly making such loud noises it should audition for the Houston Symphony.
Dear God don't let me vomit beef and pork ribs, no, please... this has never happened before and I won't know how to process such a Texas tragedy.
I walked in perfectly fine, now I'm moaning and wondering if the rib rub was powdered Ajax or something. This doesn't make sense to me.
The visit was only made worse by the fact that I slipped on their floor and nearly fell because there was so much rain water and slimy meat oil on the tile.
Of all the Texas road trips I have taken, and all the tiny BBQ joints I have enjoyed with brisket smoked over 100 year old fires on the floor of the shack, of all the mysterious food trucks with beef served on a flimsy plate, I have never had this much of a horrific gastric response... ever.
I want my mommy
(UPDATE) Three additional guests I had dinner with are also sick with severe...
Read moreWent in on Sunday 6/30/2109 the place was really busy with a long line. Me and my friend ordered the all you cane eat ribs it came with 2 sides as well. When we reached the point where you order the lady behind the counter was upset as the general manager had done something not sure what but she was upset. She gave me my 2 sides which were no more than a couple of tablespoons in each and the they gave me the rib plate with 2 ribs yes 2 they I guess were rationing the portions my friend also received the same small amount of food. We sat down to eat , the ribs were way over cooked they were dry and tough so I went to get another order which took for ever as they were busy to my disappointment the ribs were the same dry and tough and was told they no longer refill sides so was a big waste of money 35.00 with 2 drinks and time. I went to advise the manager of my experience but the line was so long I decided that I would call them later. I called the restaurant the next day Monday and asked to speak to the manager. The manager came on the line and I explained my visit to him. He Tony said he would let his area manager know and that I should have waited in line to bring this to there attention I don’t have all of Tony the managers time to keep waiting in a long line needless to say he is not a very good manager. I called papas main number and was transferred to a customer service managers voice mail. I left a message but as of today 7/4/2109 no call back I guess they are ok with this type of service and food. Very disappointed in the papas way of...
