I love Mexican food, and this is important when you live in a city like Houston, since Mexican and Tex Mex foods are a regular way of life. I found myself scouting the southwest Houston area for lunch one day when Tacos La Carreta Asadero caught my attention.
Tacos La Carreta Asadero is a small, friendly restaurant with a distinctly Mexican/Spanish atmosphere. The interior is quite colorful and I found myself looking around at the different antiques and memorabilia on display as I ate my lunch. Ordering is placed at the front counter. You pay immediately and then wait for your food to be served at your table.
I like the tacos here and on my last visit, I ordered two beef and two chicken. They are good overall with adequately seasoned meat, but there is a little more spiciness than I prefer. One thing that definitely needs to be improved is the salsa they serve with the complementary chips. Most all Mexican restaurants start you off with chips and salsa and I appreciate that, but the salsa they serve here is too bland and watery.
With beverages, Tacos La Carreta Asadero doesnât have any fountain drinks. You have to purchase your soft drink by the can or bottle. They also serve a few bottled beers. This means there are no complimentary soft drink refills. If you get thirsty, you will need to purchase another round of beverages.
Service at this restaurant is a little slower than it should be, apparently because they are low on staff. My wait was a little longer than I would have preferred, but I did like the food and the prices are very low- not much different from a fast food restaurant. So, when I consider all things, Tacos La Carreta Asadero is a good enough restaurant to recommend. I have had better tacos in the Houston area, but the restaurantâs atmospheric charms and low prices are sufficient to make it...
Read moreI am currently 13 weeks pregnant and my cravings have only been authentic Mexican food. First time eating here. The service is excellent. They answered their phone before I came in. I asked, If I could have Menudo without the meat. But when I arrived I found out the had pollo pozole. They allowed me to taste test both Pozole and Menudo. I couldn't decide, tough choice both equally good. I went with Menudo after all and they remembered my phone call with No Meat and they served me exactly what I asked for. Also, they give salsa and chips when your seated. I would come...
Read moreThis restaurant is one of the very few that actually has authentic Mexican food. Prices are cheaper than any other restaurant and you cannot beat the service. My cup was never able to get empty, refills were on point. The atmosphere is like sitting in your grandmothers kitchen while watching tv. The most authentic Mexican experience I couldâve imagined being in Houston. Really took me back to my roots. I will make it a point to eat here each time...
