Here's the thing...don't really want to give this place a bad rating but this one goes out to that one waitress (the dirty blonde one) who ruins every experience; and we go often (almost every Tuesday and Saturday for steak night and spend a minimum of $50.00 each time). First time we met her, she didn't provide very good service, but we didn't complain because we took it as maybe she was having a bad night or maybe she's new (understandable). Next time we saw her, she told us there were no available tables, so we started to leave, to which another server caught us on our way out and asked why we were leaving. When I replied "because there are no available tables", that server (the tall brunette) replied with, "oh no, there's a table right there...I'm supposed to be getting off, but I'll take care of you". Original server who turned us away probably didn't want to clean off the table and serve more customers, I assume, as she appears quite disgruntled, easily flustered, and as if she generally doesn't like her job, or maybe us, maybe both? She turned us away again tonight because I brought my young son with, who also likes the steak and live band, to which she said "Here's the thing, it's too late...maybe if you would have come around 8-8:30..." (it was only 9:30 pm on the first Saturday of Spring Break, no less); although there was another small child, probably around the same age as my son, playing Jenga on the picnic tables in the back. According to Miss-loves-to-turn-business-away, "after 8:00, this place kind of turns into a bar bar". Last time I checked, this place is always a bar and it is legal for a child to enter a bar (so long as they aren't sitting right at the bar) while accompanied and supervised by a parent in the state of Texas. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that one. Anyway, if that rule applies to me, then the other family with a small child should have been asked to leave as well. All the other times we brought my son, wasn't an issue either. Her explanation on allowing the other kid there on this occasion was, "they were here by 8:00" (I'm sensing some discrimination here). As if she has the ability to grandfather rules now. I wouldn't bring my son if this place didn't have a good vibe and I've never felt unsafe. On top of that, second time she turned us away, it was around 7:30 pm (as the jazz band member who sets up the instruments hadn't even begun setting up the drum kit yet...and he usually starts around 8). Honestly, we went outside to eat on the deck because the last time we were there, we experienced excellent service with the male staff outside; didn't even want to see her. Missed out on steak night, which are yummy, by the way, but I'm vexed by this continuous animosity I get from this server. It goes without saying, we love this place and would love to continue to go, but we're not sure if she is going to be there and feel as if we have to approach with caution. As we walked out, she told my friend, "sorry boss". Not sure, but I think that was meant to be disrespectful. We don't know what she is doing there, and not entirely convinced that she...
Read moreWhen I lived in the Galleria I frequented the Hideaway every week, and sometimes twice. I hadn't been there in a few months but it was time to get the girls from work back there. I chose Thursday nights because of their lobster, which is excellant, but tonight we got there at 6pm and they were already out of lobster. I still love their food, but the service completely sucked tonight. We couldn't get drink refills, some of us were going to the bar ourselves for our drinks. It took half an hour to get the dressing for my salad, 90 minutes for a friend to get a take out box for her leftovers. I had a friend who came in late, she was not acknowledged for the 20 minutes she sat there. As we were trying to check out there was confusion in the pricing. Turns out the waitress doesn't inform you that on a party of 5 there is an 18% gratuity added on. So when one of my friends was trying to figure out the discrepency, the owner comes over and informs us of the gratuity. We didn't even see a bill. So basically the server, Monique, is trying to hide the fact shes already recieved a tip so we would all tip her again. The owner came over to explain the gratuity. I explained that we couldnt get refills on our drinks, the table is still completely covered with dirty dishes and glasses from friends who had already left. The service was terrible and if she was putting a tip on there already, she needed to make sure she earned it. She was too busy flirting with the table of 4 guys next to us who had no problems getting their refills when they asked for it. The owners excuse.....AND NO LIE FOLKS...."IT IS WHAT IT IS" I said to him so the terrible service on the $200 spent here by this table is just that, it is what it is? He repeated it 3x, by the last time we were fed up and packed up and left. As my one friend was exiting her purse hit the bowl of peppermints by the door and it fell over. The owner chased her out to her car and wrote down her license plate and then called the cops. While me and 3 of my friends were talking, he came over and started writing down other number of license plates...none of which belonged to any of us. He then said we were no longer welcome back to the Hideaway. The only thing I can say about this place is....the food is great, but if you have issues you wont get the "customer is always right" attitude. Instead you will be berated and treated like your money doesn't mean anything. Im so sad by this....I really enjoyed...
Read moreWe were looking for somewhere to spend a few hours on a recent Friday evening when Google maps suggested this place. From the outside it looks like a rundown shack and the inside kinda confirms the first impression. We navigate some potholes as we drive into the parking area, walk up some rickety steps and push open a squeaky door. The door slams behind us with a wall shaking thump.
There is a hostess table on the left with no hostess there - it is not THAT kind of a place. There are about ten or so tables in the sitting area, beyond which there's a stage with a four-man band playing blues. Beyond the sitting area is a pony wall, beyond which there's a long bar with high stools. There are a few TVs mounted in the wall showing sports. Outside, on the other side, is a porch with another bar and more tables.
As we sit at a table inside, a waiter approaches with the menus. The prices are really good. We order some beer, and the 18-wings-for-20-bucks item with some fries on the side. The food takes its time but we are not in a hurry - the band is very good and the music is interesting. The crowd is on the older side - most of the patrons appear to be in their golden years or approaching it - and they are all enjoying the music immensely.
The food finally arrives and the wings are delicious. The wings are perfectly crunchy and saucy at the same time. The fries are also perfect. The waiter keeps an eye on the table but mostly leaves us alone to enjoy the food and music. We enjoy ourselves for a couple of hours before it was time to leave. The final cost was about $40 for two people, with...
