The Davenport Lounge Clear Lake — Restaurant in Houston

My wife and I went to dinner with 2 other couples yesterday evening 09/01/2017. After we finished dinner we all decided to go have a drink at the Davenport Lounge. Upon arriving I noticed there were 3 vehicles parked alongside of the building and others parked up in some grass with many vehicles not in a designated parking space. There were 2 cars parked perpendicular to the spaces taking up 2 spaces each. I parked in the parking lot alongside the curb 20 yards from the front door. This was not a parking space with lines but the curb was not painted yellow or red and there weren't any NO Parking signs. As I exited my car and was walking to enter, a person at the door told me that it wasn't a parking space. I replied that there were no signs or painted curbs so I’m good. This person further told me that it was for my vehicles safety that I may want to move it so nobody would hit my vehicle. I replied that is why I have insurance. Mind you that there was plenty of room around my vehicle and I wasn't blocking or even making it difficult for anyone to navigate around my vehicle.

My wife and I entered the bar, grabbed a table and got more chairs for the other two couples to sit with us as they arrived. The other couples arrived, and we were all trying to decide what we were going to order from their menu. An employee walked up to our table and told me I had to move my vehicle. I explained that I was not parked illegally, I’m good. She asked me to move my vehicle again so I told her to call a tow truck. At this time she knew she didn't have a leg to stand on so she told me that if I didn't move my car that they weren't going to serve me. My wife told me to give her the keys and that she would move the car but I wasn't going to have that. I asked her to get up and that we were leaving. As I was leaving I told the person that they definitely didn't need my money or my patronage and they said that they sure didn't and to have a good evening.

As I was driving home I felt bad for the other two couples that I left there at the lounge. When I got home I sent a text message to all four of them and said I’m sorry, hope you guys got your drinks and they were okay. They replied “no, got told to get the f* out. Ha”. At that point I picked up the phone and called them to verify what was just texted me and I was amazed. I told them that I was sorry again and invited them over to my home and much to my amazement they were already home and said we're in for the night.

There were a minimum of 7 vehicles at this bar that weren't parked in designated parking spaces or parked taking up more than one space. I truly do not understand how I was singled out. This place is so unprofessionally managed I will never go back and it’s likely the other couples...

This is one of the beat places to go relax after work. (Pre covid) I know it's still open and they're taking precautions which is great since that way they can stay in business. The folks here are great. They get to know you by name and remember your drinks preferences. How that much attention to detail is possible, I have no idea. The selection of drinks is immense: cocktails of all types, beers, wines, whiskeys, and on and on and on. They have a covered outdoor patio which was upgrade over the past years and it's very nice. It also has heat lamps in case it gets cold. The interior is a little small, but more than capable of holding several medium sized groups. Parking is a little tough in the parking lot due to other business putting up signs, but there is parking available on the curb and the side. Prices are very fair and it's always a nice evening. I can't believe I am just now reviewing one of my favorite places (and the absolute best for martinis in Clear Lake)! I have been coming here for nearly 10 years. I've been to the Richmond location too, but Clear Lake is my favorite and close to home. The martinis are always delicious and STRONG (at least 2 shots per drink or more). My favorite is the grasshopper. It's not listed on the menu anymore, but it's like an ande's mint with a punch. ;-) All of the bartenders have been amazing over the years, but most recently Katie and Laken are the bomb! Davenport is a fun spot to get together with friends or are a lovely afterdinner date. I recommend having food on your stomach first, as I said before the drinks are strong and delicious!
