This would have been my 2nd time dining at Trouble's in Howard Lake this summer. I had a pretty decent experience in July in the afternoon. Unfortunately my father and I had bragged about the place, the service and the food. Our 2nd visit We decided that we would drive an hour from Saint Paul to Trouble's and that my Brother who lives in Pennock Mn would drive an hour and we would eat dinner at Trouble's...it is half way for both of us a perfect meeting place for the future.
When questioning the server about burgers, she was pretty knowledgeable and if she did not have the answer she would go get the answer. However when questioning about the juicy Lucy burger I was told that it is stuffed with american... I told her I hate american cheese could it be stuffed with cheddar. She said it could be stuffed with pepper jack or cheddar. My dad changed his order to the pepper jack stuffed jucy lucy, and I ordered a cheddar stuffed and topped with cheddar Juicy Lucy.
Receiving the Juicy lucy's, they were both stuffed with American and topped with the ordered cheese. My dad was to hungry to care. I hate american cheese, and I was told I could have it stuffed with cheddar. The server went and asked about the burgers and chef said he cannot stuff with pepper jack or cheddar it melts out of the burger.
So far the chef sounds incompetent as several very popular Juicy Lucy burger bars that advertise pepper jack and cheddar stuffed lucy's. They succeed in that why can this chef not?
So I sent it back because I was told I could have it a certain way and the chef cooked it his way regardless without even notifying the customer first. PLUS I was Charged for it. I was charged for this Burger that I DID NOT ORDER. I think that was incredibly ridiculous and just screams horrible customer service practices.
Other than the burger issues, the chips that came with the burgers that the other family members ordered were burnt. They tasted burnt and looked burnt.
Not only is the chef incompetent but blind too?
Or do the problems boil down to the owner? I do not know. There is NO informative information regarding the juicy lucy on the menu.
Also the menu lacks information about the french fries, they come seasoned, I am allergic to certain seasonings and the menu did not mention anywhere that the fries are seasoned.
The pizza I ordered for the children was okay. We got half cheese half pepperoni a 16'' for 15.00. I liked the pizza sauce it was good possibly canned but I do not like tons of seasonings so it worked for me. I am pretty sure the 1st time I was there the server gal had told me they home make their own sauce and dough.
The dough is very good. I would buy a package of their dough and cook it at home. So the pizza rolls app was good. The kids loved the pizza pillows app. I thought the cheese curds were pretty disappointing this time around.
No one ate the chips that come with the burgers, like I said they were all burnt. My brother and Father finished their burgers.
But unfortunately I cannot stand not taking care of your customer. When the employee says something can be done and the chef cooks it his way regardless without giving said customer the opportunity to order something else is putrid. Then to charge that customer for the very thing requested not be on the food.... Yikes. The wow factor did not exist and we will be having or family meetings elsewhere. Customer service is a must have. It over rules dough. We can get good dough from Villa Pizza with similar matching sauce.

   Read moreI have frequented this establishment for some time now, I have had good experiences and bad. More bad as of lately and for that I will never dine there again. I have had food delivered to me and for a while it was decent, lately the delivery person shows up and at times they do not have change so I am stuck with a delivery charge and an awfully large tip. Other times the container in which my food is in smells like smoke, tobacco smoke. Obviously the drivers are smoking while out on delivery.
Now when it comes to dinning in, at times you get a great server and other times not. The amount of turn over with employees speaks volumes to how poorly the management is and you rarely get a server who has been there and come to know the guests. The food is standard bar food, some burgers better than others, the pizza is NOT worth the price. Best to head to Casey's and get that pizza, better, filling and less expensive. Or order Jimmy's, good service, good food.
I had come to pick and choose when I went to Troubles based on who was working, after this last visit when the owner of the place, Stacy, was on duty she was rude and had a terrible attitude. Which isn't no surprise, just talk with a few people who go there and they'll tell you the same thing.
That was the last dollar I will spend in there, I expect some level of professionalism by the owners, you won't get that here.

Very dry, and 4 out of the 6 "strips" were just flat crunchy nothings. The lid on the coleslaw was too big and spilled everywhere when I pulled it out of the box. My order costs $50.
