UPDATE
My husband and I stopped by on a Friday night recently. Just The two of us. When we checked in we were told the wait may be over an hour because they give priority to reservations. This isn't the first time they've told me this so I wonder if it's something that is told to everyone but anyways we decided to stay and the wait ended up only being 15 minutes. Our server was super attentive I wish I had gotten her name be she was awesome. She came several times to check on our food to check on our drinks. We both had nectarine Margaritas which were made with fresh fruit and the most amazing thing ever! We had 2 rounds! Ordered the bean dip as an appetizer and they kept the chips coming! We both ordered mocajetes. (steak and shrimp for him, steak and chicken for me). WOW! Fresh, sizzling hot gooey goodness! The husband is very much a quick taco truck kind of guy not the biggest fan of Mexican restaurants but this place just became his new favorite. So I had to come back and edit the review to provide an update on the wonderful experience that we had the second time around I will add as a note that the second time around covid restrictions were a lot less strict.
When we sat down the hostess who is the one that said the wait was really long also told us that there was a 1 hour and 45 minute limit I believe. I asked the server and she said that that's only if they get super busy but we didn't feel rushed and they didn't hurry us out the door.
Next time I'll take pics! Their drinks and food are just amazing!
1st Review..
Food and drinks were amazing! They would have been given 5 stars if their service wasn't absolutely horrible. However, because the food and drinks were so good..I MAY consider paying another visit.
We had a group of 6 + a baby. On a very busy Saturday night. With Covid-19, outdoor seating only. We had one person in the group order a soda and everyone received their alcoholic beverages before the soda. I ordered a bean dip as an appetizer and we only had a few chips left so you would think that they would bring out a fresh basket of chips with the bean dip. NOPE, after repeated requests for chips, they never came! I finally just asked them to remove the bean dip off of my ticket because we didn't get a chance to enjoy it because we never received the chips. Out of the six of us that ordered one person did not receive their meal at all. It seems as if they forgot to put it on the ticket or didn't add it to the ticket and by the time she received her food although it was delicious everyone was pretty much done with their plate.
I also had a 10 month old baby in a high chair. Even though the table was pretty full. The waitress still chose to put HOT plates of food in front of the baby when I asked her to hand them to me so I can put them on the side. When it came time to pay, they put everything on one check. You could clearly see that the table was full of six adults that were not together. When we sat down we told them it was individual checks. The waitress that was helping us was so rude that she didn't even come to collect the checks or to thank us. We did have a helpful server by the name of Jessie who took our checks and payments and received an additional tip just because of his politeness.
Overall if you're looking for good food and good drinks then you're at the right place. If you go out to receive a good dining experience with a great wait staff then this may not be the place for you. If you can overlook the atrociousness and rudeness of the waitresses who leave in the middle of taking a drink order then you're good. The female manager was pretty rude too.
For the record, I ordered a Mocajete (came out sizzling hot and fresh), their tortillas are delicious, a few other people had a 2 item combo. Their only complaint was dryness and the staff ignoring the sauce and water request. To sum it up, go at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreService is usually not that good, last time I was there it was probably the worst service I've ever had anywhere.
Agave Azul is the closest restaurant to my house, but I don't know if I'll ever go back. My pal and I showed up at about 8pm and the bar was pretty full, so we asked the bartender if we could sit out on the patio, doing so mostly to ensure he knew we would be out there. After sitting out there for 15 minutes and no sign of anyone coming out to take our drink order I went in to order drinks at the bar. I thought that might be easier for them since they were busy. After about 10 minutes of trying to get the same bartender to acknowledge me, he asks if I'm the group on the patio and says that they just sent a server from the restaurant out to take our order. He then left the bar area and did not care at all to take my drink order.
At that time I am pretty irritated, but whatever. I go back outside and my buddy says she brought chips/salsa and said she would be right back to take our order. It took another 15 minutes until we saw her again. So 40 minutes in to our visit and we are just now putting in an order for drinks, and we order food at the same time because we can't risk letting her go back in. Sometime during this whole event a pair of ladies had sat down at the next table over. Well I am telling my first time visiting friend that although the service is never great it is not usually this terrible. I probably used some semi-colorful language, but in a private conversation. So fast forward another 15 or 20 minutes and our food comes out to our table. A few minutes later, finally, our drinks come out. So an hour or so in to our visit and we finally have a Cadillac margarita and a tall Pacifico. Nothing extravagant. But it somehow took 20 minutes after we ordered them, 40 minutes after we sat down. So we eat, we hang out for a bit, I use the bathroom while we are waiting for the check. As I walk back through the bar I ask about our check and our waitress comes around and say that the owner heard there were some complaints and that they have covered our visit. I asked several times if I can still pay the tab as I don't have cash on me and would like to still tip the server. She was fine and did her job. She then tells us that the owner was seated a table over and heard everything we said.
I wasn't really that upset about our visit even though the service was super slow. But at that time my pal requested to speak to the owner, he was half wanting to thank her and half wanting to apologize for complaining too loud in our conversation. Well.... She came out with her arms folded and mad at us like we were out of line to complain amongst ourselves. We never once complained to an employee or anyone at the restaurant. It was a completely worthless conversation trying to express our regret that she heard our complaints, I am not the type of person that will complain to an establishment, and I do not want to receive free stuff. She told us that it was busy and they did the best they could by sending a server out to our table and that she handled the bill for us, rudely. I seriously went in to the bar to save them the trip outside only to get blown off and have to wait even longer. After all that I was more irritated by her conversation and tone than by the service.
I don't normally write such poor reviews on local businesses. I'm well aware of how hard it can be to be a small business owner. In this instance, though, I don't think I will be going back there and everyone who I have told my experience to has had the same sort of response. "The service is not great but we like to food". That is pretty much how my wife and I have always felt. And I can deal with that.
I won't deal with being rude and pushing it back on me as a customer when your service is beyond slow and I have an...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFrom the time we walked in, there were 4 of us, we became the center of attention. We were seated on the patio per our reservation and the table was not set up with napkins, silverware but we were given water but had to ask for glasses, our appetizers arrived and that is when we had to ask for silverware and napkins. We noticed things around us such as other people being seated at tables that had full set ups napkins etc. We also noticed that everyone was watching us like we were part of the menu and even the children were full blown staring. I became very uncomfortable with the fact that the children were staring. The food was great, we loved it and then at the end we were supposed to have a surprise dessert for one of the ladies that was with us because it was her birthday. This information was included in the reservation that it was her birthday and she was the one with grey hair and a dessert was pre-ordered for her. Well we had to remind the hostess of this fact and it went down hill even further from there. We waited for her treat to be made and then delivered and it came with no silverware to eat it with or napkins and the waitress was asked for them and returned with them and one of the ladies had taken all she take and let our waitress know that the service was horrible and it was unexceptable the waitress left then returned with the check . After we tried to eat the dessert the waitress returned as a after thought to apologize, that was not needed at this point because we all had tolerated as much as we could. The waitress stated she had discussed it with her manager who we never saw and so we just concluded that the waitress had the responsibility to clean this up and she was politely asked to leave the table it was not necessary and asked where was the manager since they were informed. We came from Stockton and had left the restaurant when 10 minutes into our ride home the manager called, she never came to our table to speak to us but called. She informed us that our waitress was the top waitress there. Well if she was thee top Iād hate to see how the waitress that was considered the lowest would have reacted. Bottom line we were asked not to come back which we had already decided on that. Now as I said when we first walked through the door we were already the topic of discussion at every table we passed and at the end of the ordeal one can only think that the fact that we were 4 African American Women that own their own businesses and give back to society had a tad bit to do with our treatment. Even the children were shocked to see us. Iām...
