We have been looking for awesome, local Asian options. Our go-to was always The Village Wok when we lived in Saint Paul, but after they closed in Stadium Village a few years ago — we have been seeking other awesome venues.
NOTE: There’s a sign in the window that says “under new management” and the health department license shows it’s effective 1/1/2023 so I can’t speak for the former owners, so perhaps consider that when looking at older reviews (under old management).
Tonight we ordered takeout for the first time. We had 3 entrees and two appetizers.
General Tso’s tofu: fantastic crispy tofu, covered in a savory barbecue-like sauce. Perfect texture, not soggy or overcooked.
Crispy vegetable spring rolls: excellent, smaller than a standard egg roll, with finely-chopped vegetable filling.
Vegetable lo mein: bright noodles, with a slight smoky char from the hot pan. Garlic, fresh onion, mushroom, broccoli, bean sprouts, carrots.
Chicken egg foo young: three dumplings, with a brown gravy. Very good, but we wished it came with a bit more gravy.
Donuts: fun addition, with 9ish fresh donuts coated in cinnamon sugar.
The serving sizes are absolutely generous, served in clamshell containers, rather than paper boxes. Easily 12-16oz per entree. Large portion of fresh rice to accompany the tofu and the egg foo young.
We’ll definitely be ordering again, and we are happy this is so close...
Read moreSo this is becoming my continuing quest to find some spicy food. Tried the China Buffet in Forest lake but only one dish had jalapeños. Tried Sam's Thai in White Bear, ordered their #10 spicy which had a little kick but not near enough. I've been to some others. I was in Hugo today and decided to try Asian again. I AGAIN explained that I am not a normal human and I like really spicy food. She said to order the food 10X spicy, ask for red peppers and fresh peppers. This dish ROCKED. It had the small peppers and they were hot. The got me to sweating, a good burn on the tongue, made my sinuses run a bit. PERFECT. You are correct to think I'm not normal. I know there are some other Pepper heads out there. Chinese and Mexican are traditionally spicy foods. My other house in TX is 5 miles from the Mexican border, so I can easily find spicy food down there!!! I'm glad I went back today as the food was well prepared and tasty and 99% of folks will be satisfied with it. Thanks Amian for spicing up the food today :)
Final update I've been back again and again and every time the food is perfect. I've learned the secret is communication. If you want serious HOT, ask for 10X to 15X spicy and request the FRESH peppers! I love Serranos and habaneros, but these peppers...
Read moreI gave the food 5 stars but it's really 4 stars. That's my rating but most people that like their food will give 5 stars. To me 5 stars is THE BEST. Don't mistake, the food was fantastic. Got salty Calamari, General Tsos Chicken and Hot and Sour soup. We did take out, 3i miles away. The Calamari was OK but may have been better eating in. Calamari 3 stars, good. We would order it again. General Tsos chicken was very good. Not spicy but good. I will absolutely order again. We opted for fried rice instead of white rice. It was very good. 4 stars. The hot and Sour soup was fantastic. I was already full and had to finish it. It's as close to 5 stars as I can give. The ambiance is not why you would ever go here, so 3 stars. But that's OK! Service was prompt but not personable. No eye contact etc. Do I care? ...
