My sister in law and I were out for lunch around 2pm. She was craving for sushi but most sushi restaurants in Huntington Beach were closed for break except Niya Sushi stayed opened until 2:30pm so we quickly went in.

With limited time, we quickly scanned the lunch menu and went with these options: A. NIYA LUNCH SPECIAL COMBO: $22.95 C. SUSHI COMBOS: $25.95 Seaweed Salad: $4

The interior is simple and clean, with a straightforward menu—every dish comes with a picture, which is super helpful. The ingredients were fresh, and the grilled scallops in the lunch special were delicious. Contrary to some reviews, I think the portions were pretty balanced and we didn’t experience the issue of too much rice or not enough topping.

The server was very attentive and he asked if we wanted to add anything else before their break.

As we were leaving, we noticed the freezer by the counter had macaroon ice cream sandwiches for $4 each. They looked pretty big and tasty but we were already planning to grab dessert elsewhere, so just left it to next visit.

This restaurant has been here for a while and its only five-minute drive from the Bolsa Chica Conservancy and also not too far from Huntington Beach. If you’re in the area and not sure what to eat, this spot is worth visiting.

Very disappointed. The cokes we ordered were flat. The Lettuce Wrap is supposed to have shrimp tempura and rice wrapped with a leaf of iceberg lettuce. It sure was not like the Lettuce Wraps I used to receive here a few years ago which had large pieces of shrimp tempura with just a little bit of rice. The one I received on this visit was 90% rice and 10% shrimp tempura bits. The "wasabi" that was served was not even spicy..no heat no nothing...bland. I asked the sushi chef what this was because it certainly was not wasabi. He just looked at me and nodded and smiled. I said why is this not spicy? What is this? Some more nodding and smiling. We used to come here quite a bit a few years ago and while we were away it looks like now it is under new ownership. We usually give restaurants a second visit (chance) if our first visit is not as good as we were hoping for. However, as bad as our visit was here for lunch I don't think a second visit would...

Nice and cozy sushi spot. There is no AYCE here but the lunch specials make up for it. My sister and I were able to get full without eating rounds of sushi. I would not recommend the beef teriyaki. It was horrible. Leathery strips of beef topped with an almost gelatinous sauce that tasted like coconut. The sushi was far better. The Mexican roll was the absolute best. It was very refreshing. If you don't like cilantro, then you will need to ask them to hold off on that. The nigiri is ok, but they slice the fish thick here. The rice underneath is also very small so the ratio is off. Service was decent and the space was clean and moderate in noise level. We came in for lunch so there weren't too many people on there with us. I m here on vacay but when I return to HB, I would...

I always read the negative reviews. When I see people, especially the "Local Guides" give bad reviews I want to know why. Usually it's things that are personal and arbitrary like "unfriendly sushi chef", maybe he was busy. "Vietnamese Style Sushi???", what is that? I find the food reflects the pride of the chef and my roll rocked! The service was super friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I had the In & Out roll. It was covered in a delicious poke and the roll had tuna on the outside and spicy tuna on the inside. IT WAS SPICEY! but not over powering, nothing a cold Sapporo couldn't cool down. They had a variety of other items on the menu which I will definitely check out in the future.

Sushi rolls heaven! Incredibly delicious and unique specialty rolls that will guarantee to excite and surprise your taste buds. Great atmosphere, friendly and smiley staff, quick service, well-priced, fresh sushi, and quality food! My MUST-have recommendations: 1. Sunazuri 2. Angels roll 3. Baked Langostine roll 4. Sweet n spicy garlic edamame 5. In n out roll While they specialize in rolls, they also have a great selection of fresh sashimi, sushi, and other staple Japanese dishes. Trekked from Santa Monica and will definitely be coming back to try all their rolls.
