I am from Hawaii, I want to give 3.5 stars on this place but I can't on this reviewsite. I would give it 5 stars if listed below happened.
The Spam Musubi was good but VERY small.
Mac salad in my opinion was good. Better then L&L.
The chicken katsu was seasoned and breaded very well. But they are missing one KEY ingredient, the Katsu sauce and or gravy!! You cannot have authentic chicken kastsu without either of the two. All you are doing is frying up chicken with flower, panko, and seasonings (very well if that means anything) but not finishing the actual experience. All you can do with this is either dip in ketchup (not authentic at all) or put teriyaki on it. Why is there no katsu sauce or gravy on this meal! Very disappointing.
Your missing one of the most important meals, and a staple of Hawaiian food! Kailua pork! How are you going to be a Hawaiian restaurant and not have this on your menu. Super easy make. And yet it's not there! Picture this... If you go to Hawaii, and go to a luau the main meal is going to be just this. 100% guaranteed.
I do believe you guys have great food. It taste very good! But do not call yourself a Hawaiian restaurant if your not going to do the VERY SMALL THINGS, that make Hawaiian food so amazing.
Put katsu sauce on your chicken kastsu, get your self a Kailua pig meal, have aloha soyu sauce available (at a local Asian market near you becauseI got some) , Hawaiian sun etc. Stand out. Your food is already pretty dang good. Be better than L&L because the taste is already there. Small things will make your business from...
Read moreWe ordered Luv Hawaiian BBQ for delivery through DoorDash yesterday. I've been wanting to try it since they opened a couple of months ago, and I'm happy to say I enjoyed their food!
I can't speak to service or atmosphere, but I can only conclude they made our order promptly, as it was delivered to us within the delivery time we were given. Our order was correct. I wish they'd included some of the sauces and stuff that I've heard they have on a bar inside the restaurant, but in their defense I had no way of asking for it through DD, so I can't really fault them there. I'll just have to go try it in person next time.
We ordered the chicken combo (BBQ chicken + chicken katsu) and I believe the Hawaiian bbq mix (whatever it was called, it came with bbq chicken, bbq beef, and bbq short ribs). Each plate came with two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad.
Everything was good, but I was surprised to find I liked the bbq chicken best of all! Flavorful, super juicy chicken thigh meat with a nice little bit of crust. The katsu was a little chewy but the breading was flavorful and stayed crispy. Rice was maybe a little mushy but it was very plentiful! The Mac salad was super creamy and paired perfectly with the meal. The vegetable garnish was just shredded cabbage but by that point I was pretty full anyway!
Hubby's meal was also good. The short ribs were VERY tasty, though a little small. The beef was a touch dry but quite yummy flavor-wise.
I would order from them again and I look forward to...
Read more*Update 4/30/2024 - my BBQ chicken was different from my first visit here. I was a bit disappointed. Looks like they cut the chicken thighs thin and there wasn’t a char on it. The Mac salad is still delicious though. I added a picture of the chicken I got today. It’s clearly different. I want what I got before 😭 *
Was pleasantly surprised with the food here. I ordered the Hawaiian Chicken Combo. It comes with BBQ Chicken and Chicken Katsu with rice and one scoop mac salad. The mac salad was good! I've been disappointed so many times with mac salad in the past, but this one was good. A lot of mayo and you can taste the onion flavor in the mac salad. Both chicken dishes were good. They use chicken thighs, my favorite, so I was very happy.
They are running a bit slow and they warn you with a sign on the door. They are fairly good at guessing how long it will take. When I ordered they said 15 minutes and it was about right maybe closer to 20.
It's a bit of a drive for me but I will definitely be back. I'm curious about their Korean chicken that sounds...
