This was our first visit to this establishment. We went here this evening for a quick dinner before a Havoc game. We arrived around 5:10 PM (on a Thursday). The place wasn't overly busy and we seated quickly. We placed our order within about 10 minutes. The waitress was polite and brought our drinks. She told us about a train that went around the room (that wasn't working). We were meeting friends at the Havoc game and to be on time we really needed to leave by about 6:10. We ordered simple stuff (kids chicken finger plate, 2 BLT's with fries, and the loaded baked potato w/meat on the side). We figured this was pretty easy stuff and an hour should be ample time to get the food, eat, and get out.
After we placed our order and got our drinks we didn't see much of our waitress again. Time passed, 5:30 then 5:40. We asked about how much longer it would be and the waitress checked for us. About 5 minutes later she returned and said it was almost done and something about waiting for the tomatoes. We waited a bit longer and it was 6 O'clock. At this point we weren't even sure we had time to eat and leave. We asked again and the waitress was clearly a little frantic and said that the food was ready and asked if we wanted to take it to go. We agreed, got our food by about 6:10 (an hour after we placed our order) and left. Once we got our food the family opened the boxes on the way to the VBC and there was NO TOMATO on the BLT! It was just a BL. My wife ordered her meat for the potato on the side, it was not on the side... This was a very poor experience. We paid about $43 for a meal to go and ended up not getting what we ordered. Frustrating experience and unfortunately we won't be back. I'm not sure if the restaurant was just short staffed or what the situation was but clearly there was...
Read moreStopped in for lunch, just wanting to try the place. I had convinced myself in my head that it was an order at the counter rather than sit down restaurant, but it's the latter, not the former. Luckily, I don't mind eating alone.
I'd describe Rolo's as a local Cracker Barrel. Lots and lots of generic country cooking dishes are available: meatloaf, chicken and dressing, etc. It's a moderate size restaurant with a fair amount of seating, and it was busy around lunchtime on a Tuesday. Crowd was mostly older folks.
One thing I was really impressed with was the service. The hostess got me seated right away, the cashier was pleasant when I payed my bill, and most of all, my waitress, Anita, was so nice and friendly. She took great care of me, bringing me a to-go drink before I even had to ask for it. Loved her!
The food, however, was just okay. I guess it was about what you'd expect. I had the chicken fingers, fries, and whole kernel corn, with a roll. Sweet tea to drink. The sweet tea was really good. The French fries were okay, fairly crispy but a little under salted and had a sort of weird greasy aftertaste. The chicken tenders were also okay, but again, kinda bland and stringy, not a ton of meat to them. Lastly, the roll was the Sister Schubert variety (which I don't mind at all, but I really needed more than one tiny carton of butter), and the corn was flavorless but for a faint saltiness. Not sweet at all, sadly.
I sound harsh; the food wasn't terrible, and I'd go back to Rolo's if someone I was with wanted to visit. However, my meal was also around 11 bucks, 13 with tip, and I can get much better tenders and fries elsewhere for less -- same with country vegetables. On the whole, just a so-so experience. Big shout-out to...
Read moreI used to think this was an incredible business and enjoyed being a patron here, but apparently I was wrong! I wish you could rate somewhere with LESS than a star, a friend and his colleagues, some of which are former colleagues of mine were dining there the other day and were kicked out! They are physicians, healers, the ones that would be taking care of those who might need it and yes, in this time of a worldwide pandemic, Covid-19 patients! They are beyond educated and very, VERY aware of how to protect not only themselves, but all others as in the oath they took to do so as PHYSICIANS, yet were still discriminated against, yes it is discrimination, based on that calling to be a healer. Not to mention, the staff disclosed very loudly one of the patrons medical history, which is a HIPAA violation! For lay people, HIPAA stands for the health insurance portability and accountability act, under this act it assured that your medical history is and will remain YOUR PRIVATE medical information! By violating their privacy you may have disclosed something they didn’t intend on sharing! I know that sharing is a new concept to most and some think that everything should be shared with everyone all the time, however, that is not the case! Non-disclosure is not lying and being a cured person of something doesn’t affect anyone! These men and women would NEVER intentionally put the public in harms way. Shame on you for your behavior and ignorance! I hope your misinterpretation of the governor’s mandate and guidelines for reopening and the little power you feel you have made you feel better and hope that you don’t incur the fines that go along with a HIPAA violation! I will no longer be coming to this establishment as many other healthcare workers have...
