Fresh Fish Market: Lawrence Fish Market

I stumbled across this gem, and I’m so glad I did! The seafood here is incredibly fresh—everything is cut, cleaned, and packaged right in front of you, which really gives confidence in the quality. It’s not a very large market, so it can feel a little hectic and crowded during peak times, but that just shows how popular it is. The prices are very reasonable for the quality you’re getting, and the selection is solid enough to find exactly what you need for a great meal. The staff is friendly, approachable, and always willing to help, whether it’s answering questions or giving recommendations. The atmosphere feels lively and authentic, making the shopping experience enjoyable. A great little spot for anyone who loves fresh seafood without paying premium prices!

Market Fisheries is my new favorite spot for seafood. They have an incredible variety of fresh options, and the quality is top-notch. I recently stopped in for some red grouper to make a Filipino dish called “inon-onan”, and it was exactly what I needed. If you're looking for a specific type of fish or just want to browse, this is definitely the place to go. Highly recommend!

Went there on Thursday to buy a case of Catfish steak, Got home let the fish unthawed and realize I got a case of whole fish. Called early Friday morning and spoke to a man who portrayed to not only feel bad because I came all the way from out West but of the mistake of giving me the wrong case. Stated " I don't usually do this but I will knock off $20 for the inconvenience. I stated ok and Thank You. Got there to exchange what I had for what I paid for and no one knew about the $20, No one knew anything about that conversation and all who work there was there but know one all of a sudden didn't recall a conversation. And one of the workers had the nerve to ask if I took any fish out. Would you have asked a White women that?? No!! because you would be to scared not knowing if she might know someone that can send you back to your own country. I work in the Medical Field and make way more money then a fish market worker. $20 dollars is nothing, but don't offer and then play dumb. Dont let the clean jeans and clean T shirt fool you. Watch what...

Ive been a Customer for many years (1981) and I shopped there at least twice a month until I saw a roach running up the Cashier Booth 5 min after they opened. The Cashier( male) act like it was nothing... he told us to “ just kill it”. I am a Certified Cook/ Baker with a Degree in Culinary Arts/ Management and a Food Safety Certification ....... A PEST PROBLEM will definitely do it for me. Scared! That was in November 2020. Haven’t been back....I’m not happy about this because I loved this place....I’d only had one or 2 experiences with “bad fish” ......Even when I lived in the NW Suburbs I took public transportation (Metra/ RTA/CTA) to get there and never complained because it was well worth the trip... especially because I buy in bulk....
