Route 66 Pizza — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

I was in the mood for a good hotdog that day. As I stood in line to order, I noted that this "stand" was literally a sweat shop bc the temp was about 93 degrees, and the place employs 8-10 workers in a very crowded small place. And this was my VERY FIRST time walking into this pizza/hotdog stand... Except that they DO NOT serve hotdogs! I guess they figured that they could make more money by selling fast pizzas.

On the plus side, the beef sandwich that I ordered was indeed exceptionally tasty. But I had to wait almost 20 minutes for that beef sandwich. Though they were very busy when I came in, I expected a simple order of a sandwich & fries to be no more than 10 minutes.

Additionally, the price for my order was a little high, given that the bun was smaller than what I have had at other places. Further, the fries were only OK, given that they were also over fried.

Will I return? Probably not. And this bc of everything I experienced, in addition to my concerns of crowding, hygiene & sanitation in such a small place.

I stopped by this past Friday, as I am from around the neighborhood and always wanted to give this place a try because it always seemed busy. I stopped by to get a slice of sausage pizza and I got the worst case of food poisoning I have ever had. At first I thought I had caught the flu that has been going around, but then I realized that the symptoms lasted only 2 days and this was the only thing out of the ordinary that I did during the day. I'm not sure if the meat was left out overnight or if it was something in the cheese, but I literally could not leave my house for two complete days and had incredibly dreadful nights. I even had to call off work because my stomach was so upset. Needless to say, I will not be giving this place another go. I love to support community businesses, especially restaurants, but unfortunately this is one that neither my digestive system or wallet can afford...

Hi, I'm a loyal customer of great food and I'm here to say that Route 66 is currently is one of the best pizzas out there! SLICES are BIG and cheap 2.75 a pop! IF you like rubbery, heartburn, dried-up pizza from those OTHER places you haven't tried ROUTE 66 yet! I've tasted there "route 66 burger" with ham n' bacon and killed it! but now im heading back there to get the return of the "JUMBO WINGS" bbq or hot these beasts are damn good! matter of fact! i've been there so many times to know that everything is FIRE! deepdish pizza,HARLEY mushroom burger! meatball sandwich, italian beef dipped 2x! , chicken fingers, grilled chicken sandwich, chicken salad, and man oh man those home made giant cheese sticks and that home made ranch dressing! i recommend you stop by yourself and make your own judgment before you read a negative comment probably written by the enemy pizzerias! thanks...
