This is an edit to my previous 5-star review. I've been eating at Flying Pie, and specifically the Fairview location, for over 30 years now. For most of that time, my review would have been more than five stars if I could give it, because it was genuinely the best pizza around. I've edited my review to two stars out of concern and love for the establishment, in the hopes that they can wake up and correct what I'm seeing as a slow but accelerating decline. The price keeps going up, the wait time keeps getting longer, and now I've started noticing a decline in quality, which I never EVER would've expected.
Our last trip in, I brought my wife and two small children. We were seated and told to expect a twenty-minute wait. Finally after an hour (during which time we were completely ignored, no staff visits at all) and with my hungry two-year-old losing his mind, I went to the counter to inquire. As it turns out, they had confused our (small) order with someone else's, so we were never going to receive our pizza unless I'd asked. They said they'd have a hot one to us in a few minutes, and indeed did bring us a pizza in five minutes...but it was almost cold, likely it was our original order that had been left to sit somewhere. Given that we had hungry children to feed we went ahead and ate it, and sadly discovered that in addition to being cold, it was not even tasty. I'm not sure how you don't do a Samoan pizza right, but you managed it. To top it all off, beyond a 'sorry' we received no real apology, nor any other attempt to make this right.
This was the first time in decades that I've left the Flying Pie without enthusiastically honking the horn for good service. Given the good will you've built up I will make one more trip to see if things have improved. It will make me very sad if I'm forced to seek pizza elsewhere, as the Flying Pie has been a part of the community and my life for so long. Stay good, Flying Pie!!! Please. I'd like my kids to have the same experience with you...
Read moreI'm just going to say that Flying Pie Pizza is an acquired taste. I hated everything about the place. It's probably the worst restaurant I've ever been to. Plain and simple, horrible atmosphere, inedible food, terrible choices for a buffet, and unsanitary facility. Rant below:
After living in Boise my whole life, I have never actually gone to Flying Pie, but last month, I finally gave in and went to see what all the fuss was about.
Parking was terrible, I assume that there is a parking lot hidden somewhere in the back, but after driving around the place for 10 minutes, I gave up trying to figure out how to get back there and parked at an adjacent business.
As soon as I walked in, I was met with a claustrophobic's nightmare. The place was tiny, and set up in the worst imaginable way. The kitchen was in the front, with all the tables on the opposite side of the main (only) walkway. They even had the stockroom in the back, separate from the kitchen entirely, so that staff had to push their way through people to get anything or go anywhere. It was very busy.
The staff was very friendly-I'll give them that. They loved working there, and thought everything about the place was the best, as did all the customers that I could see. If you like hookah bars, you might just like this place. I didn't touch most of the pizzas...I could see what was on them. A couple of the pizzas I did try was a vegetarian pizza (which I pulled a whole intact clove of garlic from-yuck), and what looked to be a pepperoni pizza (which I found to be made with sharp cheddar instead of traditional pizza cheeses).
The building was not as bad as it could have been, but it wasn't as clean as it should be, and it was old and shabby. Atmosphere like I said was dreadful-the lighting was terrible, and the way the place was set up made it feel even smaller than it really was.
Neither me or my fiance will ever ever ever...
Read moreWOW! Three of us visited Flying Pie Pizza Wednesday evening. We ordered two pizzas and wanted some refreshments from the bar. Well instead of doing things like most places I had to pay for the pizza then go to the bar and open another tab, very strange and a waste of time and resources. We went to the bar and waited and waited and waited. I finally got the attention of a young man and asked him if I could order some beer, he said yeah and walked away. We waited and waited. After some time I was able to order our drinks. We sat at our table and waited for our pizza. We waited and waited, we finished our beer and still no pizza. I went back to the bar to order another round and I waited and waited and waited, finally I was able to get another round. Time went by and no pizza. At this point we had been waiting an hour. I went to the counter and tried to get the attention of the young lady that took our order, after some time I finally got her attention, SHE COULD NOT FIND OUR ORDER and just walked away from me and started helping other people. At this point I had had enough and asked for my money back. Another lady came over (I believe she was the person in charge) after looking at the computer and checking with the cook she told me our pizzas just came out of the oven and asked if I wanted the pizzas or my money back. Being a reasonable person I said we would take our pizzas. When we were finished I went back to the bar to collect my credit card, OMG, it took forever to get someone to help me. The person that finally helped me was the same young lady that took my order oh so long ago. I asked her for my card and she tried to charge me for the pizza again, We could not believe what we experienced at Flying Pie Pizza. The young lady and the young man had no clue what they were doing, we were completely amazed at their...
