This place is a GEM! As you enter the restaurant, you are transported from Boise, Idaho to a quaint Pacific Northwest fishing town - it also gives very "Cape Cod" vibes. The fisherman decor and ambiance is so cute, including the owner's very own wall of trophy fish, a tank full of curious and friendly fish, and a little "fishing town." As a seafood lover, the hardest part was picking something off the menu!! So many great dishes including crab cakes, linguine with clams, coconut shrimp. I finally had to make a decision and went with the shrimp scampi pasta and a side of clam chowder. It was delicious and the portions were substantial. I was helped by a young lade named Ali, and the service was top-notch. She's the kind of tactful waitress who checks on you just enough, always seems to keep your water filled, and seamlessly clears the plates as you finish them. She was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, and had incredible charisma. To top it all off, the mouth-watering meal was ended with COMPLIMENTARY sherbet to cleanse your palette. On the front door, you can see that the restaurant is award-winning multiple years in a row - and for good reason!! The owner is clearly passionate about providing this area with fresh, quality seafood. Don't even think twice - if you like seafood, I urge you to try this amazing gem in the gem state!

Fresh Off the Hook ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I have been visiting the Puget Sound for at least twice a year, since 1990. So, I have high expectations for fresh seafood. I have been visiting this Boise business, originally known as Reel Foods, since It first opened in 1994. It is my favorite local seafood restaurant. They cook seafood exactly the way I like it. Fresh fish, simply prepared. My go to is the Halibut Fish & Chips, which is what I ordered today. Instead, I received the Alaskan Cod ($10.99). Cod isn’t my favorite, but it was excellent! There were 6-7 pieces of fish, perfectly cooked in a light tempura. The tartar sauce and coleslaw, both classic versions, were excellent. The french fries were beer battered and plentiful. At the end of your meal, you will receive a small, complementary scoop of sherbet. With food that’s good, it’s no mystery that Fresh Off the Hook Has been voted Boise’s Best seafood restaurant for 11 years in a row. Highly Recommended!!! Location: 507 N. Milwaukee St. Boise Hours: Monday - Saturday 11 AM to 9 PM Sunday 11 AM to 8 PM

If flavor gets the rating then 5 star for sure! But on top of that we walked right in and we’re seated immediately. Memory was our server’s name. She was fast and provided good service. Clam chowder was delish. I wish more clam chowder had been in our bowls. LOL so much flavor and a great consistency. We had three entrees. Teriyaki shrimp bowl which had just a little spice, cod fish and chips and seafood Alfredo. Alfredo totally full of seafood great flavor and tons of leftovers. Plenty of food. Sooooo good. We got a little scoop of pineapple sherbet that came with the meal as dessert. Overall so YUM. Good atmosphere. It was busy for such a small place lots of workers and they seem pretty happy which helps with the ambiance. Added more photos 2/2024

A review I wish would have been better. My wife and daughter were out of town so I was excited to go with my son for some seafood as the ladies don't like it. We arrived and told to sit anywhere, and we sat by older couple. The lady looked pissed and by the conversation with the waitress, something didn't go well with their meal as they were offered free desert and many apologies. Our waters and menus came right away, as the two waitresses ran around the dining area. The couple next to us left and based on text messages I had sent and received we had sat just under 12 minutes before getting our order taken. In fact, new people came in and sat next to us where the pissed off people were, and I gave them our menu as they were waiting to get menus and drink order taken. We placed our order, I ordered a Hot Salad and my son ordered Shrimp Scampi. The waitress noticed we gave our menus to the other table and quickly gave them a 3rd and took their drink order. My son's salad came out at a normal time, but not before the people we sat next to got their soups, and in fact got 2 rounds of soup because they said they were to be getting a bowl instead of a cup. They seemed and said well this is way more than we need and noticed we didn't have our salad yet. Not thinking much of it my son finished his salad and the same people that were finishing up their soups got their main course. I thought was strange considering we ordered 10 minutes before. I figured ours has to be coming soon. We sat for another 12 minutes or so after the people that came in 10 minutes after us had their food before we got up and left. I told them I would pay for my salad, but nothing else. The waitress was confused and thought I wanted to pay for my meal that I didn't get. The other waitress said "no, don't worry about it". As we were leaving the "Bell" rang and she said that is probably your meal. Total time was around 50 minutes from sit down to us leaving and we only got a salad and two waters. I can't express my frustration and disappointment as I was hoping to get and support a small business. The waitress said she didn't know why it was taking so long, new cook? We ended up at Olive Garden...

As a follow up to this visit, I went back a week later without contacting the person below. Service was quick, food was delicious, and was in and out in 30 minutes or less. Not that I was looking for a fast food but they were very prompt. Thank you for making this second trip a...

This review was from over 5 years ago. And I stand by my words! :) Still wonderful. Wait staff is always great--always has been, but I have to give a big shout out to Kim. She has "patiently" taken our orders, laughed with us, explained that "ahi" is a type of fish (I grew up in Idaho. Not well traveled. Sounded like carp to me! Turns out it's spectacular here!). Still going back. Never a bad experience. Here's an older review: "Well, I found a new favorite seafood restaurant in Boise – and definitely in our top three overall! "Fresh off the Hook" is a hidden gem in a strip mall off Milwaukee. We found the food amazing and the prices beyond reasonable. I had the entrée Caesar Salad and the Sesame Seed Crusted Ahi Tuna. The tuna was seared to perfection – crusty on the outside with a rich, rosy-pink interior (too often, I get fish overcooked or undercooked). It came with plenty of wasabi and picked ginger PLUS a sweet soy dip that was phenomenal. (I ate the garnish of crispy noodles. They were great!). My salad was a large bowl of crispy, fresh romaine torn to the perfect size with an abundance of grated parmesan and crunchy garlic croutons. A nice surprise was the little cubes of tomatoes that added a lovely color, texture, and "zing" to an already-super salad. Topping it off was a sliced egg and a lovely warm roll with butter. The biggest surprise (and a wonderful surprise – the best kind, right?) was the prices. I have paid $3-$4 more for far less quality for both of my dishes). The spousal unit had a Broiled Halibut with Creamy Lemon Dill Sauce. He was hugely impressed with his food also. The fish was great and the sauce complimented the halibut well. His sautéed veggies were perfect – crisp, but not undercooked – and the rice was exactly right, with a lovely texture versus a "gooey" mess. Last, but not least, was our server, Lacey. She hit the exact balance of being attentive (sincerely attentive, too) without being pesky. All these things combined mean we'll be regulars...

It's been a hot minute since I have dined at Fresh of the Hook. They are conveniently next to the DMV so we headed here for lunch today. It was perfect cause after lunch we just walked to the DMV.

Walking in, we were instantly greeted. We were told to pick a table so we grabbed one by the cool fish tank. Menus were dropped off and drink orders were taken. I like the cool cups that our drinks were served in. We got our orders squared away so we just hung out till our food was being prepared.

Our clam chowder was dropped off first. The chowder looked hearty! You can see the chunky pieces of potatoes and clams. It was fantastic! Potatoes were soft, clams were tender and chewy. My husband and I shared a cup of it but next time we will have to get our own bowls. We were fighting for the last bite.

For lunch I got the shrimp cocktail. My husband snagged the shrimp and chips. Both looked so good! The shrimp cocktail was delicious! The shrimp were nicely cooked and had a good bite to them. Drizzle some fresh lemon juice with a big dip of the cocktail sauce..... chef's kiss! The cocktail sauce has a great heat to it. The horseradish made me nose burn so good! My husband's fried shrimp were crispy and savory! They came out fresh out the oil cause those babies were hot! The batter on the outside was tasty! The fries that came with the shrimp were great! They were perfectly fried and it had a seasoning coated on the outside of the fry. So good! Those are the best kind of fries.

Ali took great care of us today. We were on a time crunch so Ali helped me get my bill squared away so we can just leave. She made sure our drinks were topped off and checked up on us a few times. It was nice to have great service! I'm happy we stopped in for lunch today. It was definitely worth it! I look forward to...
