When you visit Boise in search of craft beer, you don’t have to search very long to find a brewery. In fact, you may be forced to narrow down your choices to a select few and if you find yourself in this predicament, then a place I recommend adding to your places to visit is Sockeye Grill and Brewery.
Sockeye Grill and Brewery, I learned, is one of Idaho’s largest breweries and those who have an interest in the business and art of brewing should be sure to include a tour of the large brewhouse. You can either start or end your visit this way. I started off with a tour, which was a good idea, as it offered some valuable information on Sockeye and its place in the Boise craft beer community.
Once back inside the dining and tasting area, you will notice that Sockeye Grill and Brewery contains a good deal of wood. This, coupled with the outdoor pics on the walls, create an atmosphere like that of a mountain cabin or lodge. There are even trees on the inside and the outdoor landscaping continues to support the overall theme of the great outdoors.
With the beer, Sockeye Grill and Brewery has about 12 beers on tap at any given time. They serve their six year- round beers continuously and then mix things up with a rotating set of seasonal and specialty beers. I liked everything I tried and took a special liking to the Hell Diver Pale Ale and the Dagger Falls IPA.
Food is an important part of any visit to Sockeye Grill and Brewery. If you want to taste some salmon, then a good starting point is the Sockeye Salmon Cakes and a good choice for the main meal is the Sockeye Salmon Dinner. If you’re not into fish, don’t worry- they have many more foods to choose from. One of the foods I tried that I had never experienced before are the finger steaks. They are an Idaho specialty and are like chicken fingers, but with steak instead of chicken and with added seasoning in the breading.
Idaho is associated with outdoor wilderness, lakes, rivers, and forests. Sockeye Grill and Brewery takes these qualities and harnesses them into its outdoor- themed restaurant and brewery. There is much to like about this large establishment, and it makes a great choice of places to visit in Idaho’s...
Read moreI recently went to sockeye to eat and to my embarrassment the staff decided they not only did not want to ask politely for me to put a mask on they demanded it. I mentioned several times that I could not wear a mask and they proceeded to be rudely confrontational in demanding that I wear one regardless. It is apparent they presume on appearance alone who can and can’t wear a mask. That is both rude and disrespectful. They refused service if I were to stay and attempted to cite central district health to justify their company policy. I looked up the guidance from central district health department from September 4th (I was there the night of the 5th) and it states quote, “facial coverings are not required to be worn under the following circumstances: ... b. Persons with medical conditions, mental health condition, or disability that prevent them from wearing a face covering. A person is not required to provide documentation demonstrating that the person can not tolerate wearing a face covering.” Additionally I was covered by line f. Which states, “persons who are eating or drinking at a restaurant or other establishment that offers food or beverage service, so long as they engage in physical distancing.” It should be noted that the seating intended for me was outside in the patio seating. Despite this guidance that they tried to justify their abhorrent behavior, their staff did not hesitate to create a scene in-front of patrons. Their tone was not polite nor did they request instead they rudely demanded and were confrontational. This is not how customers...
Read moreYou cannot go wrong with Sockeye Brewing. I’ve now eaten here five times and loved every single second and bite of my food and drinks! They definitely know how to provide both quality and quantity.
On my latest visit I helped myself to the Smoked Brisket Grilled Cheese (sliced smoked brisket topped with spinach, sautéed mushroom, Gouda, and cheddar cheese and their Woolybugger Wheat stone ground mustard aioli on grilled sourdough, $13.50) with a side of fries. This ginormous sandwich is heavenly. The brisket was cooked to damn perfection and the aioli was top notch. There was plenty of meat and cheese. It was SO FREAKIN’ GOOD. I would 10/10 order it again!
My husband chowed down on the Bronco Burger (6 oz all natural chuck patty served on a brioche bun and smothered in Power House Porter barbecue sauce, topped with cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon, onion straws, lettuce, tomato and red onion, $13.00) with a side of fries. Again, it was huge! And beautifully presented, although it was a piece of work to eat so beware! But it’s worth the mess. I shared a couple bites and agreed it was a great damn burger.
I really don’t remember what we got for drinks…smh. We sat outdoors which I highly recommend especially when it’s nice out.
Overall, great food for a steal (total bill came to less than $60.00 and that was with 2 drinks each + tip) that are...
