Prairie House Tavern — Restaurant in Illinois

My wife and I ordered Prairie House Tavern through Grubhub this evening. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wrap and my wife ordered the Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls and the Barbecue Pizza.

I don't know who creates the menu for sites like Grubhub, DoorDash, the restaurant, etc. but I don't care. If you're listing menu items and the stuff on/in them, then be accurate. For example. The Buffalo Chicken Wrap says that it is buffalo chicken, romaine lettuce and ranch dressing. No mention of onions or tomatoes. However, my first bite revealed both tomatoes and onions. I hate both and would have asked for both to be removed had I known.

The pizza somehow was worse. There was no cilantro which annoyed my wife, but the fact that the pizza was somehow overcooked and undercooked at the same time is completely weird...and totally disgusting. The crust looked palid. Palid!!!!

The Buffalo chicken egg rolls were really good.

The picture is of the Buffalo chicken wrap, well, unwrapped, so I can pick out the onions and tomatoes.

Before I began writing my post, there was a statement about how restaurants may not have their normal menu items. That's fine as these delivery sites list only the items that restaurants are offering (at least in my experience). However, list them correctly and make them correctly. When you don't list items correctly, you're misleading us. And, I can assure you that I won't order from here again.

We got our money back from Grubhub, but the restaurant is the loser in this transaction. If they provided the incorrect menu, it's on them. If they didn't and Grubhub listed the food incorrectly, then the restaurant needs to fix this immediately.

The badly prepared pizza is squarely on the shoulders of the restaurant.

The food and experience were mediocre at best.

UPDATE I've been here a few times since places opened up again. The food has been pretty good. Now it has been under new management since March 2022, and I've heard plenty of rumors of how the food is not as good, no one goes here anymore, etc. However, as I said, I have been here several times. The wings are good, the buffalo chicken wrap is good, the BBQ platters are good.

Last night, I had the burger. I ordered it medium and one of my dining companions also got a burger but ordered it medium well. Mine was also medium well and was not pink at all in the middle. In my opinion, if the burger is cooked above medium, they lose some flavor and this happened last night. I always order the tots, and these were cold and limp - not crunchy at all. However, they have been better on other dining excursions, so I won't hold it against them.

They did fence in their outdoor patio and the tables and seating are nice. It really is a great place to enjoy the warm weather and have a few drinks, just...

We ordered an appetizer of cheese curds, they were ok. My daughters ordered black bean burgers and they asked for it to be wrapped in lettuce but they said their lettuce was in smaller pieces, my husband had a Prarie house burger and he said it wasn't put together well and it wasn't that great. I ordered their cheese x burger and ordered it with lettuce pickle tomato and red onion and sweet potato fries, the burger came without the lettuce pickle tomato and red onion and they brought me regular fries which had light salt and no flavor. They asked if everything was ok and I said you forgot the pickles lettuce tomato and red onion also my sweet potato fries. The guy who asked said he just got there and was his first day and he was sorry and asked for my plate and I said just bring the stuff on the side. He said the fries would be a few minutes and he would bring them as soon as they were done. He never brought them and we were there for about 20 minutes longer. The food was not the worst or the best also they had about 6 people sitting at the bar right next to each other with absolutely no social distancing. I don't think I will...

We booked my son’s 1st birthday party here because we really loved the four seasons room they had. The food was very good! The server Beth, we had was very sweet and nice to everyone. However I just wish she was a bit more tentative with supplying the things we needed. We had “open bar” for beer and wine for a part of the party but I believe there was some miscommunication from one of the bartenders to the guests about that.. We also didn’t have enough tables/chairs for the amount of people we had even though we gave them a final count a week before the party. I did have to clean up most of my guests plates myself too which was a little disappointing. And I also had to keep going up to the bar to ask for more plates, plasticware, napkins and cups. I realize this is a bar, not a banquet hall but I think we just expected a little more attention from what we got. Overall food was very good and I would have a party...
