There are not many places that you can say you have eaten for 40 years and nothing (this is a good thing) has changed. McDonald's is successful because is the same food every time anywhere you go no matter what. That is what Dixon's is to most people. Its the same thing you have grown to love since you were a kid. I can remember eating here when I was a little kid with my grandparents. Vergne Dixon started Dixon in 1919 and his dream was to give his guests this same great story. Now fine generations later Dixon's is still doing just that. I turned 40 this year and I still visit Dixon's as much as I can. These pictures are from a Tuesday night! Dixion's is having the same issue that the rest if the world is with staffing. So don't be a butthead and expect the busiest place in Independence to keep up with 100's of customers at 7pm on a Tuesday night. Give them a chance and you will see the same great service you have come to know and love. Dixion's is a family legacy and if you have not experienced it with your family your missing out! It might not be edgy. They might not have a new menu monthly. Heck you can't even say the food is to die for. But, you can expect a great family owned and operated resturant that serves chilli the way Mr. Dixion would have wanted all those years ago. You can expect the same great taste you have come to know and love and THAT my friends is well worth it! I can't wait to say that I have eaten her for 40 more years! Keep it up Dixion's!

You either love it or hate it I love to appreciate it… But one of the oldest restaurant in Kansas City or Independence I should say that Harry S, Truman frequented of the past 100 years; is still a family owned, operated, and retired from; just as my Daddy, Howard Gettel did after over 40 years of running a tight shop ; I walked in and seen Becky and blue eyes. I’ve known my whole life and Francine; whom I worked with, and I’ve known, since I was six; 42 years now..menu is cool, place atmosphere, and the one thing that stays the same; the recipes. My tamales spread was wonderful yesterday and since I know who does their pies, I love Apple and cheesecake with cherry pie so I can put the cherry pie filling in the right deposit of the thing it belongs in 🍒 cherry pie.. so I went and check stuff up and list made my mom‘s night and my own. I recommend this place for the rest of my life. You’ll either love it hate it, there’s always cheeseburgers and tacos. And I noticed a very clean restaurant.(That’s a huge deal to me at Lone Jack Cafe)So whether it be biased or not, it was excellent yesterday, and so was the service the greeting, and so were the customers. The only thing I wish you had still and maybe I just missed it; draw beer, a pac man table, and Coca-Cola. 1983 til after I was 21.. Sincerely, Stacey Jones

This place was awesome! I love how you can have a unique chili that you like specifically beans or no beans. Adding different seasonings onions cheese Exedra. I will say you are going to be "fined" for putting ketchup on your chili lol that's awesome they charge you I think 15 cents! Which I Can appreciate On the back of the menu tells a great story as to why they charge you for ketchup. The people are awesome the customer service was amazing from Mckayla and Stephen the owner's son even though they were super busy. I had the spaghetti chili which was very unique and my friend had the regular chili you can add bean broth or chili broth Which added to the Uniqueness of the place. I also tried the tamale which was amazing but FYI they don't make them in house. I loved the fact that they were honest about that but it definitely doesn't take away from the tasting like they did. Fun fact: apparently Harry S. Truman would often order the tamale smothered in chili beans. I do reviews a lot for military personnel so I like to indicate whether they offer a military discount unfortunately Dixon's chilli does not but it was well worth it. I would absolutely recommend Dixon's Chilli!

Oh, boy, where do I even begin with Dixon's chili in Independence, Missouri? You know you're in for a wild culinary ride when you walk into a place and the first thing you see is a sign that says, "Warning: Chili May Cause Spontaneous Laughter or Uncontrollable Dance Moves." And let me tell you, Dixon's delivers on that promise!

First, let's talk about the ambiance. It's like stepping into a time machine and landing in the 1950s, but with a twist. The interior décor is a mesmerizing blend of retro diner meets wild west saloon. You'll find red vinyl booths, vintage posters, and a jukebox that seems to have a mind of its own because it only plays Elvis Presley songs. You'll feel like you're about to embark on a gastronomic adventure through time, and the servers are basically your time-traveling tour guides.

Now, onto the chili. Dixon's chili is like the Picasso of chili artistry. It's a masterpiece in a bowl. You have to appreciate the boldness of a place that serves chili in coffee mugs, as if they're daring you to question their chili supremacy. The chili itself is a delightful blend of beans, beef, and a secret concoction of spices that makes you want to high-five the chef. If you can make it through a bowl of this chili without breaking a sweat or chugging your drink, you're basically a superhero.

The menu is a hoot, too. They have chili dogs, chili burgers, chili cheese fries, chili omelets, and probably chili ice cream (I didn't ask, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did). It's like they decided to put chili on everything just to see what would happen. And what happens is that you end up with the most unique culinary experience of your life. I'm pretty sure the owners of Dixon's sit around brainstorming new chili combinations just to mess with us, and I applaud them for it.

As for the service, it's like being in a comedy show. The staff at Dixon's is not just friendly; they're borderline stand-up comedians. They'll have you laughing so hard you might just snort chili through your nose. If you're lucky, they might even break into an impromptu dance routine, because, as the sign warned, their chili can cause uncontrollable dance moves.

In conclusion, Dixon's chili in Independence, Missouri, is a gastronomic adventure that will tickle your taste buds and leave you laughing 'til your sides hurt. It's not just a meal; it's an experience. So, put on your best chili-eating attire (with stretchy pants, of course), grab your sense of humor, and head on down to Dixon's for a bellyful of laughter and some seriously epic chili. You won't regret it, and you might just leave with a few new dance moves...

As my companions and I reluctantly took our seats, we couldn't help but feel a sense of impending disappointment. The menu, adorned with faded photos of chili bowls that looked more like sad puddles of regret, did little to assuage our apprehension.

We placed our orders, hoping against hope that perhaps the kitchen would surprise us with a burst of flavor amidst the sea of grease and mediocrity. Our hopes were swiftly dashed as the first spoonful of chili touched our lips.

What greeted us was not the bold, robust flavors we had anticipated, but rather a lackluster, flavorless sludge that left us questioning our life choices. The chili, if one could even call it that, was an insult to the very concept of spice, with all the depth and complexity of a puddle of dishwater.

The beans were rubbery, the meat savorless, and the overall experience akin to a culinary nightmare that one might encounter in the depths of a fast-food purgatory. Each bite was a reminder of the folly of our decision to dine at this sorry excuse for a restaurant, as we struggled to choke down the tasteless slop that passed for food.

In conclusion, Dixon's Famous Chili Parlor is a greasy abomination that should be avoided at all costs. With its lackluster flavors, dismal ambiance, and utter disregard for culinary excellence, this establishment is a testament to everything that is wrong with the dining experience. Save yourself the disappointment and seek sustenance elsewhere, for Dixon's is a culinary black hole from which there...

I don’t do reviews often, but since Dixons is well known so wanted to leave input on my experience. It was my first time dining here even though I’ve drove by it for years. The inside was really nice and resembled it’s classical style which I like a lot but it’s in a terrible location tbh. Service was fast and friendly. I did take into consideration that they are understaffed like most places which I hardly noticed. It was around 7pm Thursday evening and not very busy thankfully. We both ordered Dixons chili and the extras we desired and I ordered a Taco as well. I found the Chili to be bland and nothing exciting as did the person with me and mine was barely warm almost cold. I didn’t expect it be fresh but still at least warm/hot like you’d think from Chili to warm you up on a cold day. The taco was pretty good but nothing above average and I will come back to enjoy those for the all you can eat! Pricing is okay and I understand it’s a family owned establishment which is awesome, but $3 for a soft drink is outrageous in my opinion especially with a outdated machine that only has the few basic Pepsi products. The server was fine. My only complaint is that we had to ask for menus. You shouldn’t expect everyone to be a regular and just show up with a notepad and ask what we would like. I think some updating to equipment and some new recipes would be very beneficial. If you’re famous for Chili then run with that and offer different and unique options for flavoring along with...
