Gedney Bakery & Coffeehouse — Restaurant in Independence

I went to culinary school and have a daughter that is a pastry chef, so my expectation level for food is a high bar. This bakery has exceeded my expectations. I have had 2 of their scones (cheddar, chive, bacon, and a blueberry) which were both quite good. I have had one of their cinnamon rolls as well. I was afraid of all the frosting on it cause most places the frosting is just pure sugar and the bread is usually kind of dry. Gedney's has a cream cheese frosting that is delicious and their bread is not dry at all! I was there this morning and the ladies there told me that for now, because they only have one baker, that for baked goods, M-W they only have cookies. The rest of the week they have multiple choices including cinnamon rolls and muffins. I have been told by a coworker that I need to try their garlic butter croissant, but was not able to today because they only have those on the weekends. But I will make the 35 min. drive to try it. First impression walking in was that the atmosphere felt so cozy and welcoming. The employees were all very friendly and I didn’t have to wait long before placing my order. Any questions I had about an item were answered. I feel the prices were really reasonable, especially since the quality was great. Everything I ordered tasted delicious and fresh. My drink took a minute to make, but it wasn’t any longer than other coffee shops I’ve been to. I highly recommend the Iced Chai Latte! I look forward to visiting again and trying the chocolate...

Back in my hometown over the 4th, and found some amazing changes to the downtown! The Gedney is a wonderful addition! Spent a couple of hours chatting with my friend and enjoyed a great Americano. I'm so impressed with the renovation to this building, the atmosphere, coffee, and the staff! I have to eat gluten-free so I didn't try any of their bakery items, but they looked delicious!
