Joy Luck is purported to be a reliable establishment for ordering some of the old fav standby Chinese takeout food (fried rice, pot stickers, meats,/poultry & seafood dishes, etc.) My girlfriend and I finally got around to giving them a try; ordering a few items we'd typically be into for basic Chinese takeout. The shrimp fried rice was fluffy and flavorful. The deep fried prawns were crisp, not too skimpy or overly battered. The Szechuan beef had good flavor but wss skimpy on the beef. Shrimp with black bean sauce was odd because the sauce was thin and transparent. It was disappointingly bland tasting. The shrimp egg foo young was the major loser. The patties (2) were very light and crumbly. The sauce was in a separate container and wasn't the usual 'gravy-like' standard. It was a thin 'sauce' with various vegetables and even mushrooms. We noticed a sweet flavor which added to the thumbs-down rating on that one. Maybe it was just the shrimp foo young that comes that way, but since the patties themselves were so lacking, we'll probably avoid trying the other egg foo young offerings. We will definitely return and look forward to trying some other basic favs like pot stickers, egg rolls and hot & sour soup. I'll update this review...
Read moreWe're so grateful for this Olympic Peninsula treasure.
This is a new (as of 2022) mom and pop shop offering a great selection of Chinese entrees.
My wife really enjoys their seafood. They apparently make some unique and delish prawn dishes, like Walnut Prawns and Prawns in Black Sauce.
For me - and all you fellow vegetarians out there - they happily cater to us without sacrificing flavor (unlike other unnamed places in PT which cook their so-called 'vegetarian' dishes with chicken stock and / or fish/ oyster sauce). Just let the owners know you're vegetarian, and they'll tweak their recipes for every applicable entree.
The food here is what you'd expect from the sign and location. The owners are friendly and eager to cook satisfying meals that make you happy.
I'm giving Joy Luck Restaurant 5 stars because it offers the best Mandarin Chinese food you're gonna find on the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas. It doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is and delivers satisfying and delicious...
Read moreThis place was really nice, I spoke to a woman and the cheff, they had about 3 items on the Menu that were gluten free. They answered all my questions eagerly and politely. I ordered a menu item that was sliced chicken, mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, and regular rice in a Garlic sauce and it was very good. $16.99 after taxes. I was alittle worried when it came out so fast (like 5 minutes it felt like) that it was microwaved but her and the chef stated they dont own a microwave and it is all steamed and then sauted. It was very very hot when it came out. They were nice even with my anxiety questions. When I tried it, it was VERY good. The vegetables did taste very fresh and the garlic sauce was delicious and fresh tasting. 5 star Service, 5 star to go food. Lots of food as well. My photo is after I ate like...
