Best Central American food around HANDS DOWN.
It is so very hard to find authentic and tasty central american food around, especially in the Indian Trail area. El Atardecer delivers 100%
It's conveniently located and while It's small and has limited seating and parking, the food is tastiest around.
I had chicken with rice, refried beans, and chicken. My wife had the fried chicken tacos; we both asked for fried plantain sides, and a cheese pupusa and one with pork, beans, and cheese. It was all reasonably priced and bursting with flavor. Everything from the refried beans which was moist and perfectly seasoned, to the chicken, soft and moist, yet thin. Everything was perfect. I don't know how they did it, but even the sour cream was the best I've had in my 9 years in the United States.
I am very strict in my reviews and have a toygh hand on hispanic restaurants especially, but El Atardecer just blew me away.
A bit of constructive criticism:
I was confused the receipt didn't come to us when we were done, but the cash register is by the door, so qe just guessed we had to go there when we were done. I would like if we were told when we were seated how to pay after we're done.
This summer, also, has been incredibly hot, and it didn't help that inside the AC was not working to cool the space very well, however I know this is a new place and I will not subtract points for this because the food was so good.
I will definetely be coming back here, and I hope everyone in Indian Trail tries El Atardecer...

The team here welcomed us when we walked in. The food took just long enough that you knew they were preparing it fresh, nothing tasted frozen or rushed.
The salsa verde was perfect. The red sauce was just the right amount of spice us gueros hunt for.
Pupusa was wonderful and crunchy. The tacos were what sold me. Insane flavor in each style of meat, pollo, Al pastor and the asada were amazing.
Can’t say enough good things.
And to top it off, we found this place by mistake.
So if you find yourself hunting for “Mexican” food. You can check the box off. If you want authentic Honduran food, you can check the box off.
Will recommend to...
Read moreA wonderful meal! We had never had Honduran or El Salvadorian food before. The menu items looked familiar, tacos, fajitas but the flavors were fresh and totally different from what we have come to expect from Mexican restaurants. We ordered chicken tacos and crispy chicken tacos with beans and rice. The crispy chicken tacos were served with a cabbage salad. It was so delicious! The chicken tacos were so good on soft corn tortillas with onion and cilantro. Next time we visit we want to continue to venture in to more of the offerings. Definitely healthy options! Also, we want to try the breakfast menu! We highly recommend...
