I ordered food from this place for the first time yesterday. I ordered the fish and chips and asked them to substitute the cod with tilapia. They were not welcoming at all. When I arrived to pick up my food the lady at the front was looking at me crazy like I didn’t belong there. I told her that I had a take out order and she told me to go to the sushi bar or the restaurant bar. She clearly didn’t want to assist me. I went to the sushi bar to ask them if my order was ready and they told me that I needed to wait for a server. I stood there for five minutes in the doorway of the sushi bar and the restaurant and not one person acknowledged me. It was not that busy in there for me to be ignored that way. After almost ten minutes the guy from the bar came and walked past me like I was not there. He was checking the orders that were on the counter. The guy told him that I was waiting and he still ignored me. I asked him if he had an order for (the name) and he said no as he began to walk away. There was never any eye contact. I asked for the last name and it was my order that he had. He told me to follow him to the other bar but you would have thought he was talking to someone else as he still had not made eye contact with me. When we got to the bar he told me to wait because he had to get something else. I was waiting to pay and he stood there. I asked him what he wanted me to do because I was not understanding what was going on and why customer service didn’t exist. I handed him my card, he took it, put it back on the counter and walked away. He said absolutely nothing to me and left my food on the side table. I was in such disbelief. When I got home I opened the food and it was disgusting. The fries were so hard and dry that I thought they were made the day before or taken out of the trash. They definitely were not fresh. The fish was cod and it was also dry as if it was old and made the day before. I had to wonder if it was a racist thing because I was black and looking at the environment I don’t think black people eat there. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and just charged it to horrible customer service. However I would never step foot in that establishment again. They should be ashamed of themselves. That was not cool. My clients were not that happy with their food either but they ate it because they were hungry. I threw mine away. I wouldn’t have given it to my dog. For a $75 order, the result should have...
Read moreI was so excited to eat here for the first time, was taken there for my bday dinner. I've heard alot of great things about Kona Jacks. However, service was disappointing. I felt like our party of two was intruding and unwelcome. We sat at the bar and no hi, welcome or a acknowledgement for over 5 minutes, even though the bartender was within feet of us and we was the only ones at the bar. He seemed annoyed we sat there. He finally took out drink orders, 10 minutes later offered us menus. Had to flag him down just to place our order. On a positive note the clam chowder and fried calamari was delicious. Thankfully another bartender came along and we flagged her down to get more drinks. The original bartender walked by us multiple times and never asked if we were ready to order. I get we are at the bar but no excuse because almost everywhere we go we sit at the bar. I shouldnt feel like we are imposing on them by being there, however we did feel like we were imposing. We decided to just order to go because we felt unwelcomed. Our to go oder came out from the sushi bar. It was set on a table for pickup/carryout and we was told the white bag over there is our order, felt like we was told to go fetch. So disrespectful. I'm more mad that I actually am writing this review. I work in customer service and prefer to highlight and thank people. The apps and the female bartender made a couple positive notes. Also, my to go order consisted of $15 sushi roll that was smaller and tasted no different than grocery store sushi, $16 of sashimi that is 3 small, thin cuts of salmon and maybe 1 oz of salmon roe. I can either over look bad service, or undesirable food but not both. I really wish one or the other could of been positive enough to out weigh the other. Most certainly won't be dinning in again. While waiting for food we did discuss doing carryout again but after getting home and seeing what we got for what we paid for...
Read moreThere is NO BETTER seafood restaurant (seafood/fish is our favorite) not only in Carmel/ Indpls but ANY PLACE we have ever eaten. We have eaten at ALL of the overpriced fancy restaurants (DT INDPLS. and Carmel/etc, with the lovely upscale atmosphere but every time harboring an edge of disappointment once completed: "one and done". We just tried the "fanciest new place" in DT Carmel and sadly it was so over touted we were shocked. I was embaressed because we took out of town guests. We have finally come to our senses, YOU CANT EAT ATMOSPHERE..! The prices at KJ's are incredibly fair. The food beef or seafood is impeccably perfectly prepared. The seafood/fish is the freshest. They even have an on site fish/sushi market and with all of that fish out in the open you would suspect some fishy aroma in the restaurant...but surprisingly that is not the case at all. We've eaten here many times over 30 years but finally have concluded, if we're going out for seafood/fish /(steaks are great too), we are only going to Kona Jacks from now on....PERIOD. No more experimentation just because it's the new "IT" restaurant. Sadly for us it took us this long to come to...
