I was a loyal customer and avid fan of Mesa my whole 4 years at the University of Iowa. This changed when they kicked me out when it was -5 degrees and -25 windchill. I went in and pulled my mask down momentarily to clarify my order in which I was told I had a warning. They had two tables set up in which our group set up and prepared to eat. I removed my mask to eat and I was kicked out as I was then told those tables are for standing. I have never been removed from a business or bar. I talked with security (who were very respectful and genuine) and they told our group to wait near the door for our Uber and we agreed with no problem. The manager then came over and I apologized for the misunderstanding and pleaded with him to wait inside to avoid the weather in which he said "the weather is not my problem and get out of my restaurant, I don't care if it's dangerous". He had the biggest ego I have ever seen and was extremely aggressive and rude. I've never been so turned off by management and treated with that level of disrespect. I truly regret the last 4 years of business. I urge you to not make the same mistake as me. Choose to give your dollar to businesses who treat others well. There are plenty in Iowa City and I've never had another bad experience. Some businesses that stick out nearby include Mickeys (Bar Food), Estelas (Mexican Food), and Falbo Bros (Pizza). I would encourage you to vote with your dollar and go to one of...
Read moreMesa pizza-overpriced, kinda icky, and misleading menu. I ordered a vegan 14" and a 20" chicken pineapple barbeque sauce delivered through orderup. The bill was 52.00 with a 15% tip. The vegan was good, but certainly not THAT good for the price ($18) The sauce is tasteless and quite sugary. The chicken barbeque was totally inedible. It consisted of crust slathered in bbq with very little chicken and pineapple AND NO CHEESE. I was (and am) flummoxed by this. When I called to complain, I was beligerently informed that it usually doesn't come with cheese. Yes, I was put off and slightly peeved, but hello? Who orders (a non vegan) pizza and has to SPECIFY cheese? And who charges $27 for a "pizza" that has a topping value at roughly $2? Maybe two pieces were choked down, and the rest sits wasted on the countertop. The person taking my complaint deigned to offer me a free 12" pizza. All I had to do was give my name and pick up my pizza next time. I would expect that the free pizza wouldn't be any better, nor would I trust it not to contain foreign matter, as the customer service on the phone consisted of "I WAS going to tell you I would give you a free pizza." It would be nice to get an admission that the menu might be misleading if cheese is not a default ingredient on a PIZZA. A non-vegan pizza. Trust: order from The Wedge. It's a much better pizza and a much...
Read moreIf big slices and variety are your thing, this is the place to be. Be it will or destiny, their pizza is always hot and crispy. When I'm craving some variety, my personal favorite are the Buffalo Chicken, Philly Steak, and Pad Thai slices. However, it's hard to resist their pepperoni and salami, which features paper thin slices of delicious soppressata drizzle with just the right amount of balsamic. My only complaint is their prices - two slices and a drink can approach $10. The lunch special should be available around the clock in a town like Iowa City as well - there are plenty of grad students who would come in for the special if it were offered later in the day! But, I understand this is a Big Ten College town, and not everything is cheap! To conclude, if you're wanting a more east-coast type of slice, or perhaps something a little more unique, Mesa can't be beat. It...
