Ewers Mens Store — Local services in Iowa City

I went in to inquire about a suit rental, and unfortunately, the gentleman working the store was incredibly rude right off the bat and would not let me even talk. He kept interrupting me and made it seem like I was inconveniencing him. I never write reviews but felt as I needed to because it was very disrespectful. The main reason I went in to inquire was because I wanted a rental suit for a wedding and wanted to support LOCAL.

I would suggest coming in ready to argue because it seems as though that is what he wants to do. I came in and said I wanted to inquire about renting a suit and immediately he said "well I don't know what that means"..... ?? Such an awful response and he proceeded to talk over me and demanded to basically make me buy a suit and that is not what I wanted to do. Awful...

I stopped into Ewers today and Bob, the owner took my measurements and could tell what size I was just by looking at me.

He let me try on a very nice suit made of wool, which was very comfortable and cool while on my body.

I was so moved and grateful for Bob’s top rate, first class service. The suit was more comfortable than anything else I tried on elsewhere. The suits at Ewers were more much more comfortable than anything from the department stores I came across.

I hope Bob stays in business many years. I am truly appreciative of his care and concern in helping me get a good fit, a nice looking suit, tailored to my needs.

I wanted to get the best value for my dollars and this is where I found my money was best spent.

The overall quality was the best here that I could find anywhere...

Went in today hoping to get my body measurements taken for a suit or professional attire, but to my surprise, the owner told me he “didn’t know how to do any of that” and that he didn’t feel comfortable doing measurements.

It was genuinely shocking — especially considering this is a men’s store that sells suits and professional wear. I expected at least a basic understanding of measurements or a willingness to help, but instead:

❌ Refused service ❌ Was very dismissive ❌ Said he didn’t know how to take measurements ❌ Said he didn’t feel comfortable doing it ❌ Offered no alternative or direction

Overall, very disappointing experience. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for even the most standard...
