Pizza Hut — Restaurant in Iowa City

If I could give 0 stars that would be an appropriate review for this location. I ordered 2 pizzas with an estimated delivery time of 40-50 minutes. Now with contactless delivery tip is paid up front and I left a 33% tip of $8.70 on an order that was $26.30 in the hopes that I would get a timely and warm delivery. My order was delivered 110 minutes later so twice as long as anticipated. On top of that I have a table right below my doorbell. Instead of setting the pizzas on the table where it is dry they set them on the ground in the snow. In the notes I asked them to please knock because our doorbell only works about 50% of the time. Well they failed to do that too and rung the doorbell and fortunately it worked. When I got the snowy pizzas inside the seal had already been broken on one of the boxes but the other one was intact. When we opened the pizzas we found that they were not even made correctly. Instead of 2 pan pizzas with Hut topping on the crust we got 2 hand tossed pizzas without any crust topping and this might come as a huge surprise but they were also very cold at this point. Also, on top of all of this one of the pizzas was burned. I’m not sure how that even happens nowadays with the conveyor belt style pizza ovens. When I called to ask why it took so long they said they were short staffed. I completely understand how that can impact business but why give estimated delivery windows that don’t reflect those staffing issues? Food: My kids loved the BBQ chicken pizza. The beef brisket should not be combined with caramelized onions and roasted peppers on BBQ sauce. Not enjoyable. Brownie was amazing! I'd give it another star but getting another person's 5 pepperoni pizzas with peppers turned me off a bit I guess and lefty me a little too salty to enjoy my meal.

Service: received another person's order in error and was told to call the store about it by the first delivery driver. Called the store number and was connected to a corporate call center. The lady who answered was perfect, was compassionate about the inconvenience the error caused, and got my order resubmitted. When the 2nd delivery driver arrived with my complete order along with an empty box, he told me he had to collect my order's amount in cash. Nice try, dude. He showed me something to validate his claim and I explained I had already paid by credit card and would not be paying anything. This was followed by blah, blah, sob, blah, blah, sob, sob, blah, I don't know. Then he left my porch and headed to his car, while I looked at the paper receipt taped to one of my boxes. Huh! Wouldn't you know, receipt indicated paid in full, with a double digit driver tip, and nothing was due. Go figure.

What a shame that not one single Pizza Hut in the Iowa City/Coralville/North Liberty area has committed itself to serving Udi's brand gluten free pizza! In so doing they are missing the market of customers who, for reasons of health, cannot dine out safely at most restaurants (most restaurants listing "gluten free" options are not serving truly gluten-free food because of dangerous cross-contamination issues of which they are either oblivious or uncaring). Thankfully, the national Pizza Hut chain has made a commitment to serve Udi's gluten free pizza in participating outlets.This is a genuine commitment on the part of participating Pizza Hut outlets to become GIG Certified, a sophisticated training process that assures customers with celiac disease and gluten intolerance can be assured of receiving gluten free food. Alas, only three Pizza Huts in the whole state have stepped up to the plate: Lamoni, Mason City, and Webster City, per the company web site. Other states have dozens of participating stores. One would think a supposedly progressive city like Iowa City would be leading the pack, not bringing up the rear, when it comes to having restaurants (of any kind, not just Pizza Hut) offering this food option....
