Bad Day? I have made the trip from North Liberty to IA City today just to go to this donut shop. I often find that the selection isn't what I'd like to see, but can usually find something that I like. The chop suey has been a safe bet for me.The one that I got today was flat with a few air bubbles, hollow inside and the consistency of a slightly burnt heel from a loaf of bread. It was no thicker than a pencil. (see photo) Lots of icing and a little bit of spice taste couldn't save it. I ended up throwing half of it away. I really like this place and want it to stay in business. The employees are always pleasant and helpful. Even with poor selection, I could count on the product being a certain way, so it was worth the trip. The chop suey that I had today should have been dumped instead of sold. It wasn't worth the trip or the money. I'm hoping that this is the exception, rather than the rule. If it happens again I won't be coming back.

Our favorite cake donut shop in Iowa City unfortunately closed down, so we were so excited when a Donutland opened near us! They have the best donuts and this location is super quick and the staff is very friendly! Our favorite flavors are their cherry glaze and chocolate chip. They have really good coffee as well. These donuts will be our go-to when we have out of town guests visit!

Donuts have no color, doughy consistency. Could be fried a bit longer. Also should be proofed longer. This is ongoing. The reason I will not return is the prices. I get inflation and all. But a small cup of reg coffee and three donuts …$10!!!! What the heck?!? That’s just unreasonable especially for raw donuts.

UPDATE 2.0: Donutland has taken it up a notch. They use real fruit in their frosting! I first noticed it in the raspberry lemon old fashioned and then asked about the strawberry glaze raised. This is some Great British Baking show level baking, people, and it is chef's kiss magnificent! So lucky to have them in the neighborhood.

My mom likes this place more than me. The doughnuts are pretty classic 'cake' doughnuts, so they're thicker and denser than the ones that I prefer with the big puffy holes in them.

They glaze them with all sorts of stuff, like orange, or maple, or maple bacon. But the problem is under the glaze it's all the same doughnut. It's not like other places where you can get a doughnut with blueberries mixed into the dough. It's a plain doughnut, or a chocolate doughnut.

They have a lot of fillings though, like lemon creme, or boston creme, or napolian creme. If you don't get a filled doughnut, though, it's going to be slightly dry. That's not a big deal to most people (my mom loves them), but for me, dryness is a problem. It hurts my throat. So if you're like my mom, you'll love it, but if you're like me... it's tolerable. The...
