Edit: I revised my star rating to give it one star from three because I went in for food yesterday with my family and my stomach was really hurting from something I ate. For goodness sakes, I felt like I've been poisoned! I still feel a bit off today with stomach cramps, pain and bloating, so I don't think I'll be going back there ever again! I like to go to this place for a quick eat with family from time to time and the food is pretty tasty. There are a couple things that I found to be lacking in the overall experience, though. First, the hostess lady was very curt and almost rude to me when I stepped into the door and asked for a table for three. I don't know her name, but she's the older gal with short dirty blond hair and black rimmed glasses. She was wearing an ugly black and white sweater thing that looked like it should've been a tapestry rather than something that should grace the shoulders of any lady. To me, she just seemed very bitter and unpleasant and while I was waiting for my family, I observed her display similar behavior to other customers several times. She doesn't smile and has an unpleasant demeanor in general. That kinda made me want to find somewhere else to go, but this is a small town and there aren't a lot of options to choose from. Second, while I do think that the food here is very tasty, I always seem to get an upset stomach from the soup and salad combo. Is it because the bread is so thick and maybe some kind of ingredients they use to make it with doesn't agree with my system? I don't know for sure. Maybe it's something in the soup. I had the roast beef and the chicken dumpling soup today with two salads. The bread is very tasty and filling because it's so dense, but maybe it's made with improper proportions of ingredients that makes it seem like "unleavened" bread while not actually being such. The atmosphere of the place is quiet and pretty nice for visiting with family and friends over some food, but I just wish that I wouldn't feel sick after every time...
Read moreI’ve gone to Holiday Kitchen a handful of times with my husbands’ family and I’ve always had a great experience. This last time we were in it was just the two of us; he ordered the unlimited soup and salad (which comes with bread) and I ordered an omlette. His soup, salad, and bread came out first and he wanted me to try a bite of soup because it was so good. I couldn’t even take the bite because it was so hot so I ripped off a piece of the bread to munch on while I waited for my food. The waitress came over and said “You can’t be eating his food or I’ll have to charge you extra.” It was not said in a nice tone and she snapped it out rudely. Afterwards she was nothing but nice and smiley (which she had not been until after she snapped at me). Looking around the restaurant she was nice and smiley with all her other customers and it seemed to me she may have been discriminating against me for being Asian.
The food was wonderful, atmosphere quaint, and up until my experience today was a great place...
Read moreWhile our server was very friendly and attentive, the atmosphere, food quality and checkout service left a lot to be desired. The atmosphere felt flat and stale in color and needs more decoration and warm lighting to say the least. I ordered the everything omelette and the vegetables inside were cold and crunchy. Supposed to let those cook a little before adding the eggs! Coffee was bland, like it was the cheap instant stuff. Finally the checkout service wasn’t very polite as the lady didn’t speak to us or anything as we paid. Just held out her hand for the slip. No “Hello!” Or “how was everything?” Nothing. Being in a busy rush is perfectly understandable. I’ve worked in food service too, I know what it’s like. But it’s not an excuse for rudeness to paying customers, unless they’re rude to you first. This wasn’t my first time here and it seems pretty hit or miss. Think I’ll stick to B’s...
