Nestled in the bustling streets of Irvine, Tasty Garden offers a slice of Hong Kong with its diverse menu that echoes the vibrant spirit of a traditional café in the heart of the city. My culinary journey here was marked by both hits and misses, contributing to a solid 3.5-star experience. But will give it 4 as there is no 3.5 options.
The Beef Chow Fun was decent, featuring a satisfactory blend of flavors and textures. Although it didn't particularly stand out, it was a competent dish that nicely complemented the meal. On a brighter note, the Honey Walnut Shrimp was a delightful surprise. Its balance of sweetness and crunch made it not just tasty, but memorable, embodying the essence of what makes this dish a favorite among many.
The French Style Filet Mignon further elevated the experience, with its tender cuts and savory sauce crafting a compelling argument for a return visit. It's a dish that showcases Tasty Garden's ability to fuse Eastern and Western culinary traditions in a harmonious and appetizing way.
Another noteworthy mention is the Salt and Pepper Pork. Its simple yet powerful flavor profile was both comforting and delicious, making it a dish I'd happily order again. However, the true star of the show was the Egg Waffle. This iconic Hong Kong street food was executed to perfection, offering a taste of nostalgia and authenticity that transported me straight to the bustling streets of Hong Kong. Its unique texture and subtle sweetness were a fitting end to a diverse meal.
Tasty Garden presents itself as a homage to Hong Kong-style cafés, and it largely succeeds in this endeavor. While not every dish was a standout, the overall quality and diversity of the menu, combined with the cozy ambiance, make it a worthwhile visit for those seeking to explore or reminisce about Hong Kong's rich culinary traditions.
Whether you're a fan of traditional Chinese cuisine or eager to try something new, Tasty Garden in Irvine provides a glimpse into the flavors and dishes that make Hong Kong's food scene so beloved. It's a place where the love for food and culture comes together, offering a tasty adventure for all...
Read moreI visited Tasty Noodle House recently with a friend, and while the food portions were decent, the overall experience was extremely disappointing — to the point that I feel obligated to share it in detail. First off, the hygiene level in the restaurant was questionable at best. The table had oil stains when we sat down, and the chopsticks and bowls didn't seem particularly clean either. However, the worst part of our visit was the absolutely terrible customer service, which turned a slightly unpleasant experience into a truly infuriating one.
We brought our foldable scooters with us, which is common in many cities, especially when there's no designated parking area outside. At first, the staff told us we couldn’t bring them in. We explained politely that there was no space to leave them outside and asked if we could fold them and place them discreetly under the table. One of the staff members refused again in a rather rude tone. Luckily, another staff member was more understanding and even offered to place the scooters in a corner for us. We thanked her and thought that was the end of it.
Unfortunately, that was only the beginning of the real problem. After we finished our meal and paid the bill, we went to retrieve our scooters, only to find that both of them had been drenched in some kind of red, greasy oil. It wasn't a small accidental spill — this looked completely intentional. The oil had seeped into the wheels, locks, handlebars, and brake levers. The smell was awful and strong enough to make anyone nauseous. We were shocked.
We went back inside and politely asked for some paper towels or cleaning supplies. Instead of helping, the staff told us it was our own fault for bringing the scooters inside in the first place. One of them even had the audacity to say that they had warned us. I replied that they had refused at first, but someone else helped us store them — and even if they didn't allow scooters, what gave them the right to damage our personal property like that?
They didn’t apologize. Instead, they chased us out of the restaurant and refused to give us even a single napkin. The total lack of responsibility and common decency was appalling. After stepping outside to try and clean the mess, we realized just how much oil had been dumped — it was practically soaked into every crevice of the scooters. Cleaning them took ages, and we’re still not sure if the brake systems have been permanently affected.
Later, when I looked up other reviews, I noticed we weren’t the only ones complaining. Many others have mentioned how rude and unprofessional the staff are. Honestly, I don’t usually write reviews, especially negative ones, but this time I felt I had to. It’s unacceptable for any business to treat customers this way. You don’t have to love every customer who walks through the door, but you absolutely should not damage their property and then blame them for it.
To anyone considering eating here: beware. The food may look good, but the service and attitude of the staff will leave a terrible taste in your mouth — much worse than anything on the menu. I sincerely hope this place either improves drastically or closes down. No one deserves to be treated like this.

Read moreWas looking for a Hong Kong style Cafe similar to the ones in San Gabriel. Decided to try this one. Located in a nice plaza with plenty of free self parking. The restaurant looks clean, well decorated, and pleasant. The staff is friendly and welcoming. There's plenty of indoor seating. We were quickly seated and presented with menus. Lots of options to choose from. We ordered the hot plates, one with chicken, and the other the fish. It took longer than excited for them to prepare the food and bring it. It wasn't an issue since we weren't in a rush. When the food finally arrived, it looked and smelled great. Unfortunately, the taste didn't match the visuals. The food was WAY too salty. Everything was literally covered with salt... Even the veggies. I thought maybe it was only the fish dish but the chicken was also salty but not as bad as the fish. The fries and onion rings were yummy. Also the pasta was good. The fried rice usually has diced carrots and peas. I guess they don't do that here. Portions are good and prices are reasonable given that everything has gotten expensive.
I really wanted to like this restaurant. However, I wish they weren't so generous with salt use.
I might give them a second chance but I'll ask...
