Shin's Donuts — Restaurant in Irving

When I lived in Irving, Shin's was the must-go-to-place several times a week. Look at all the five-star reviews for this place. The donuts are far and away the best I've EVER had. They put Krispy Kreme to shame. The service is ALWAYS fast, even at their peak hours. I am writing this review now because I am actually planning a trip to detour to Irving JUST TO GO TO SHIM'S. That is when I saw some of the negative reviews. I do know that they pride themselves in their quality. If older donuts were thrown out or otherwise sold it would be because they refuse to sell an inferior older product. I have never had a problem with them. Also, I used to own a restaurant myself. I know enough to give a shop a second chance if something did happen that was less than ideal. Things happen. The glazed donuts on the last two visits have been different from my initial visits. It wasn’t bad but not semi-doughy, soft and pillowy as I was accustomed to. It was more on the dry side and held its shape when bitten into. The Bavarian crème donut had just a squirt of crème which was DISAPPOINTING. All the other donuts (glazed cake, old fashioned, cinnamon glazed cake, apple fritter) continued to be spot on. This visit inspired me to find another donut shop with the best glazed donut and Bavarian crème one that is not skimpy. Also, an unfriendly owner that made no attempt to acknowledge me TWICE also motivated me to search elsewhere. I know she was not deaf and mute because she responded to her employee. I gave them 1 star for the service, their pastries are 5 stars - delicious. Normally I have never experienced bad service but today it was disappointing. Not from the ladies but the gentleman who served me. He looks at me with irritation and then he was rude when I was telling him my order. I was polite the entire time and he rolled his eyes when I asked to add to my order, I’m like what’s his problem. I still thanked him and started to leave and had to make sure that maybe he was having a bad day but nope, a white woman comes in and his whole demeanor changed. WOW is all I can say, I walked out. Yes I will return because the ladies have always treated me with kindness and professionalism. But if he’s there I will wait to be waited on...
