To start with: The lodge is absolutely beautiful!! To start with, my room was inviting and cozy, thoughtfully decorated and designed— like a rustic cabin, but five star resort at the same time, with a gorgeous view of the river! On top of how clean and welcoming it was, it had the most comfortable bed with tons of pillows— I slept like a log both nights! Everything about the place was unpretentious, and immediately felt welcomed and at “home”.
The bar and grill: I was traveling solo, and I went to eat dinner the first night not sure what to expect... the restaurant was PACKED being that it was a Saturday night, every table was taken and people were even crowded around the bar standing, but this sweetheart named Barbara immediately made a space for me, so I could get something to eat and not have to wait. I was not expecting that at all. Luke was the bartender who took care of me, and right away, I felt like I was a regular coming back for a normal evening. It was my birthday, and everyone— staff and patrons— (all strangers to me still) helped celebrate the occasion as if they already knew me. The menu is simple, but has something on it for everyone. I had the burger and it was delicious. Breakfast the next morning offered the same kind and welcoming service, and the food and coffee was delicious and just what I needed before a full day of fishing!
The fly fishing guiding: I had a full guided day with Karlie on Sunday in search of rainbow trout, and from beginning to end, it was more fun than I could have ever expected, and within the first 30 minutes, I was catching fish and getting action on my line from then on! She is an impressive guide and clearly knows her stuff. She’s an excellent caster, extremely knowledgeable on gear, different fishing techniques, great behind the oars, a pro at landing fish, and she’s simply a badass. For being so young and already have so much experience and knowledge, as well as being the sweetest and most enjoyable human to be around, I’m grateful to know her and have had the opportunity to fish with her. I highly recommend getting her as your guide!
Ultimately, for this being my first time to Island Park, ID, as well as first my time being guided for trout, I highly recommend going to Trouthunter for it all. I’ve been fly fishing for almost 10 years, and I can’t wait to come back...
Read moreFood was good. Wife's steak was great, my bison burger was good, but it was missing the bacon that it should have had. This wouldn't have been a problem had the waitress come to us a single time after dropping off our food. Not once between when she dropped off the food and the 15 minutes after we finished our food did she even look at us, focused on the other tables it seemed. She passed by us for the table next to us several times, didn't even look our way. We sat there with our waters empty, and our meals finished for around 15 minutes before she finally approached us and asked if we wanted a check. Nothing more, nothing less, no sorry for completely ignoring is the entire time. So, again, we wait. Another 15-20 minutes for our check (this wasn't "customer time," I had been watching the clock the whole time). Another waiter/busser asked if we wanted refills, which we declined, since she should be back with our check any minute now, right? Nope. We got fed up with waiting and went inside to get our check ourselves. We passed her on our way inside and she called for i think the hostess to cash us out for her. First time in years that we've stiffed someone (it was a ~$50 order and if the service was even OK we probably would have left at least 10 bucks). I don't know if we just don't look like wed tip (we're a little younger than most other patrons there), but to blatantly ignore your tables without apology is inexcusable. TL;DR food was very good,...
Read moreWe have eaten at the restaraunt on our way through in passing and have been happy with the service and quality of the food but had a very un-impressive and very disappointing experience June 15 2019. Three of our family ordered the Teton French Toast. The menu described it with huckleberries. Well the waitress took our order and didnt mention anything until I asked if huckleberries were in season already. Not until after i asked did she inform us that they were out. She then told us we could expect strawberries would be a substitute for the topping. So when we received the 3 French toast breakfasts there may have been a total of 1 whole strawberry combined for all 3 meals. I had 3 tiny slivers. When I asked the waitress for more she said she ran out. Isn't it the waitress's job to let the customer know if their is a problem with the meal being up to par? So we spent $27 on 3 plates of plain French toast. That's really expensive bread folks! VERY DISAPPOINTED how poorly the service and communication was. Most likely won't be...
