BUYERS BEWARE I am the granddaughter of a fisherman. And the sister of a fisherman also. So I know what good seafood is. For meat I really only eat seafood so I was searching for place to get fresh not frozen. My first impression when I walked into the store was hesitant. If you can smell the product and it smells fishy that means it's not fresh. I walked around to see what they had and finally got a very young man's attention when I was looking at this fish it's (a sheephead)one of my very favorite. I grew up on this fish I know it very well. This fish was beautiful! The fish was 6 1/2 lb, they will scale and filet it for free. I could do that but if they will do it as part of the transaction, heck yeah. As you can see what I got back was not six and a half pounds of fish it was barely two. Then I asked the young man where's the head, where is the spine, where is the tail. He looked at me like a deer in headlights and mumble something about the fish being so thick you couldn't cut that or couldn't cut this. It still didn't answer my question "Where's the rest of my fish.. ?" Being at fresh seafood markets, I've always had them ask do you want the head the tail the body because those are great parts you can use that stuff. I didn't fuss. I didn't fight. I knew this is my one and only time with them. This fish came up to a whopping $46. Does that look like $46 worth of fish to you? I couldn't feed two people with what I had let alone four. When I showed this picture to my friend who referred me there. She was incredulous! She says OMG. She said "I see them reserving the head tail and spine and selling that! " Which is probably what they did mine. Sure I could have pitched a fit. But why should I have to? I'm a first time customer. They showed me their hand. To me that means BUYER BEWARE!! My search...
Read moreI am a frequent customer of The Fisherman's Dock in Mandarin. One of the reasons that I have shopped there was the availability of fresh quality seafood; but, for me, more importantly was the warm friendly environment that was cultivated by the store manager, Lindsay. Every time I walked in the door and she was there, she would greet me by name, ask me what I was cooking that night, and make informed suggestions to improve my dishes and food selections. She was far more than just a manager -- she treated the store as if it were her own and every customer were special.
My experience at Fisherman's Dock is unique to her. Others will scoop up a pound of shrimp or cut off a couple of pounds of grouper, but no one else has displayed the hospitality and friendliness shown to me by Lindsay.
I am deeply saddened and dismayed today to find out that, due to some "corporate restructuring," the owners of the store decided to demote Lindsay and give her a pay cut. Instead of taking the demotion and pay cut, Lindsay has decided to seek other employment.
In a time where employers are having difficulty finding good employees, it is such a shame to lose such a wonderful person.
I will miss...
Read moreSuch incredibly poor service at this location. Was given such attitude when I inquired about getting 2 lbs shrimp steamed in old bay. Told it would take 45 minutes for that amount and that I should have called it in if I wanted that much. They were definitely discouraging the sale, which blew my mind. I apologized for not knowing how it worked and said no problem, I will be back in 45 minutes to pick them up if they could still squeeze me in. A girl working by the register confirmed the amount of shrimp i wanted and said I could pay for them when i came back. I also went ahead and bought 50 dollars worth of snow crab legs before i left. They wouldnt let me pay for the shrimp ahead, so 45 minutes later I returned and of course no one had ever steamed any shrimp, didn't have a clue what i was talking about, and I was never apologized to. 100% will not be back. So sorry I didn't get the rude guy's name that treated me so awful, he deserves to be fired with his...
