I truly wanted to have a good experience here because I’ve heard nothing but positive reviews of this place from friends who have been here, but my experience was NOT good. Let me clarify before I continue that this review is not aimed towards the entertainers we saw during our visit. They were all wonderful and if I were rating them alone they would all get 5/5 stars (Brittany Moore in particular is hilarious and a pleasure to see in person).
As for the rest of the visit... not much good to say. Food was bland, and the cheese was hardly melted on my sandwich, not to mention the long wait time for orders to come out. Their “$2 Fireball shots” offer is comical; as another reviewer said, you get a thimble of Fireball for $2. That’s not hyperbole, the shot is a plastic cup that is actually the size of a sewing thimble.
Our server (Keith) was very pleasant at the beginning of our visit, and by the end of the night he was visibly irritated with our party (rolling his eyes, making faces when he seemed to think no one would notice, etc). Our group was there for a family member’s birthday party, and he asked that person if the check for our party of 12 would be split or together. She mistakenly told him it would be all together, when in reality it should have been split separately. I have never been to a restaurant where it was a problem to change a check from together to split after the fact, but he insisted it would not be possible and that the check MUST be paid together since it was already put in all as one. It caused a HUGE headache for our party as all 12 of our group had to try to figure out what portion of the check each person owed. No one working there seemed willing to help us with this, and were either unable or didn’t care about helping us understand how the entry fees and minimums per person were factored into our ~$400 bill. We must have spent at least 30 minutes (possibly more) attempting to figure this out ourselves with paper and pencil. The staff seemed to care only about getting their money now that the evening’s show was over and everyone was fed, and didn’t want to bother dealing with our party anymore beyond that.
The relative who was there celebrating her birthday was visibly upset by the situation, and I (and the rest of our group) were upset on her behalf that a birthday event that started out very positively had so quickly soured the rest of her evening. I’m not sure if Hamburger Mary’s rakes in more profit from having a party of 10+ on one check, but their unwillingness to do anything to resolve the situation leads me to believe so and that they were taking advantage of that fact.
As I said before I really wanted to love this place, but I don’t think I’ll ever go back again. This visit was my first and only visit, and it has ruined my impression of Hamburger Mary’s. I may try one of the chain’s other locations if I’m ever in the area of one but the Beach Blvd. location struck out with me. I would recommend if you do intend on going, ensure with a member of the staff prior to your visit that you’ll be able to have your check split if needed, because they won’t be willing to do it after the fact regardless of how much money you just put into their pockets. However, do try to support the drag queens at the other local Jax events they tend to frequent as they are definitely deserving of your...
Read moreI was hesitant about writing this review because the artists are excellent and they do beautiful performances. Unfortunately the staff is extremely rude and non caring and I think this should be shared. We arrived at 7pm yesterday with a group of 5, we were told that we couldn’t stay because the show was ongoing even though there was space at the bar.We made a reservation for the 9pm show and left. We came back roughly 20 minutes before 9 just to make sure we had a table and sat at the bar to order beverages, the staff was constantly telling that we needed to go outside and that we could not stay at the bar. We went outside and when the line started for the 9pm show once again we encountered rude staff that put us aside stating that we needed to wait because we set at the bar for what 10 minutes for the prior show. We understand that there are rules and every establishment has them, but at least you could be nice when you communicate that to your customers. Finally we set a table, and waited for over 15 minutes for a server to greet us. We decided to go to the bar to order while we waited for the service, by the way our bartender was amazing. When we came back with a round from the bar, the server came, he looked at our table and treat us bad when we were about to order and walk away to another table . Long story short we finally got to order from the server a round of drinks and food, waited over 25 minutes when the entire group just gave up and agree to leave. I informed the bar stating that we had not received no food or drinks from the server only 3 glasses of water, to make it very clear, that we had not been taking advantage of the establishment we were just upset customers that after so many opportunities given through the night we all agree that it was just enough. The same server that came to our table follow us outside demanding us to pay for items that we did not even received and that were not even ready, once again he offended the group with a bad word to which we all replied upset. Maybe it was just their busy night and they were understaffed. To management:If by some miracle the items were ready I am happy to go to the establishment and pay for the items not received, just reply to this review if that was the...
Read moreI was excited about going back for another round of Bingo with Karissa!! Super entertaining, the wings and fries were great, and our waitress was the sweetest lady ever!
But tonight... our waiter Austin was horrible. As soon as we sat down we ordered a drink but was given something completely different than what was ordered. When asked about it, he said they don’t have it; but decided not to inform us and seemed irritated that we didn’t want the remixed drink. After that he just seemed like he could careless about tending to us. The other waitress even stepped in to take our plates and bring us a to-go box; mind you Austin walked right past our table multiple times without saying two words to us. Btw he only had one other table, so being busy was no excuse. I tried to remain positive because I just knew Karissa would liven up the mood. Unfortunately, bingo was cancelled due to the small turn out. Which was understandable.
When it came time to pay, Austin took my money then tossed my change on the table without saying a word. I almost do not want to return once our charity night is rescheduled. But you know what I’ll just be sure to NOT sit in his section since we were...
