I hate to say but my mother and I were disappointed in the food from the cafe. The first giveaway that the food was subpar was the fact that zero staff was eating there. Now they may have their own separate dining area, but it still didn’t look good. My mom had huli huli chicken, corn pepper with beans, and Hawaiian rice. The chicken was over done and tough, the rice had zero flavor with spam in it that looked uncooked and squishy. Now I could understand that food can get tough and dry the longer it sits in and buffet style warmer. However we got there at 11am. I had a salmon BLT. The salmon had a fishy taste with no other flavors. This could have been a really good sandwich if it had a glaze or something. Also one feature that I did like was the fact they offered plastic and real silverware. But the silverware smelt and had a weird taste. It tasted as if they were wiped down with alcohol wipes. Now this place may have had a bad day and we have to go back a few more times to Mayo but we will never go back to the...
Read moreThe lines move slow because the menu is on an electronic screen, with small, impossible to see lime green font. Nobody can decide what they want to order until they are up at the actual register where they then take loads of time browsing the menu while the cashier waits for them to decide. There is no menus out front for people to browse. If you are senior you can’t even read the menu at all so you have to depend on the cashier helping you select. There is an ad advertising mobile ordering set up in the corner but when you scan the QR code it goes to a very small menu with very limited items on it. Otherwise food taste great. Ready made snacks are airport expensive which is surprising to have food priced so high for a non profit hospital sitting on billions in endowments. Affordable food or a non-profit based food system for their workers anbd patients annd patients families would be a nice gesture. Again, food is amazing, clean up dining hall staff are so kind and...
Read moreIt is quite amazing the great job that Mayo did on the Cafe renovations! It looks great! The grinding and brewing coffee machines addition, the fresh squeezed orange juice machine and the friendly service are the highlights. The breakfast food on the other hand, although sounding really good in the menu, when served was a disappointment. I had the breakfaat scrambled bowl with turkey sausage and potatoes, and the potatoes were hard and tasteless. They were apologetic and offered a replacement. I chose the French toast. Sadly the French toast was not cooked fresh, it looked and tasted like French toast from a buffet line. Granted, we don't come to Mayo to eat, and maybe I was just unlucky with my breakfast food choices. I see positive reviews for lunch/dinner. I will review again when I try those. For now, I only recommend the coffee and fresh juice for breakfast. Maybe it is safe to ...
