I had been anxious to try M Brothers at Mayo after reading several articles about its grand opening.
Prospective diners should note that it is located inside of the Mayo Clinic in the atrium area. This means that you will be subject to restrictions you would not normally have to deal with at standalone restaurants to get to it. As of the time of this writing, Mayo has a mandatory COVID screening process where you are asked some questions about your current health and you HAVE to wear a mask all of the time inside.
Additionally, parking can be a challenge because it usually is crowded. Parking Lot D was the nearest outside parking lot to the restaurant, although any of the Cannaday lots are closely. Lot D is a free parking lot for visitors and patients. You can access the restaurant by walking from this lot down a sidewalk between the atrium building and a large parking garage via a side door. Said garage is also right next to the restaurant; I have never parked in it but it appeared to be a paid parking garage for the hospital that anybody could use.
Once inside of the restaurant, it's what you would expect at any restaurant in Florida, i.e. you don't have to wear a mask at your table (not that you could eat with a face mask on), it's just that there are some unusual obstacles to getting there you should be aware of.
The inside decor of the restaurant was very attractive; you certainly no longer feel like you are inside of a medical facility once you enter the restaurant.
I arrived for lunch just after it opened at 11 AM. Although pretty empty at first, the crowd intensified by the time I left around 12:30 PM, but not to the point that people were having to wait for tables.
This is a high end restaurant which is reflected in the overall experience. For lunch, the prices are high but not unreasonable given the quality/selection.
I had the salmon entree as well as the olive oil cake for dessert. Both were excellent. The portions were small, but this was not a bad thing as a lot of times at restaurants I feel like I eat too much.
Given that this is a higher end restaurant, anyone dining here should be aware that the pace is geared towards a more leisurely dining experience. I was there about an hour and a half which I enjoyed, but don't plan on having lunch here if you are in between doctors appointments and only have a few minutes to spare.
If you need a quick bite, there is also a grab and go coffee bar next door to the main restaurant that offers tea, coffee, muffins, cookies, and jerky among other selections that is a convenient option. This has apparently taken the place of the Cannaday Cafe which I noticed is now closed.
My server shared some helpful information as well: lunch begins at 11 AM and runs until 2 or 3 PM. I inferred that there isn't a very hard cut off time on lunch per his description, presuming, at least, that you arrive while the kitchen is still preparing lunches, or it could be that since it is new they haven't established a cut off time yet. If you want lunch and are arriving later in the afternoon, I'd suggest calling ahead to confirm the cut off time. The restaurant remains open after lunch ends and switches to light fare only (i.e. appetizers) until dinner starts at 5 PM. The overall hours of the restaurant are from 11 AM to 9 PM Monday - Saturday (as of the time of this writing).
There are plans in the works to have an outdoor seating area off of the main dining room which will feature occasional live jazz music as well. This should be completed in time for spring when the weather is more suited to eating outside.
I noticed a number of Mayo staff members eating there amongst a good sized overall crowd which was nice to see. Given the extra requirements in place to enter Mayo Clinic, my guess is that typical patrons are more likely to be patients or staff. Either way, I hope the new restaurant...
Read moreMy Wife and I were extremely excited to go. Unfortunately it did not live up to the restaurants name sake. For the price it was extremely disappointing. The options in this price range are endless and in my opinion far superior. I’m sure they’ve got a ways to go however they have been open for a while. The ambience while in the hospital is very warm and inviting. Our server was very attentive and the cocktails were on point. They half a dozen oysters that were market price($30) were tiny at best and I had to pull a piece of shell out of my mouth on everyone. My wife’s seafood pasta was delicious. However my 28 day aged ribeye steak was ordered medium rare plus but it showed up medium well with a very slight touch of pink. Once pointed it out to the server and in his defense they did offer to remake it but by then my wife was finished with her meal and we had already moved on to dessert discussion. The server said the desert would be on the house. If I was at outback or Longhorn that would’ve been just fine. But not at this establishment at those prices with a quality of meat that was promised ($85 12 oz.). Having stepped away from the table I was able to have a conversation with the manager. After some discussion she told me she was not aware of the situation. Being that there were only six tables sat at the restaurant I did find that a little hard to believe. She offered to cook me another steak again and I said no worries I said if you would like to make it to go I would be more than happy to take it home but again we had moved on to desert. In the end, she took the steak off the bill. This was my first experience with the brothers restaurants and sadly I’m not sure that I would recommend it nor would I return. That’s just my two cents worth. For everyone of that has a fantastic experience...
Read moreAt the last minute, we made a reservation for M Bros. We thought it was a little strange that it was at Mayo - it's located in the atrium inside of the Cannaday parking structure (go towards the ER and the entrance for the parking structure is on the left). There's free valet parking, and when you enter, you feel like you're entering a hotel: gorgeous atrium and the entrance to M Bros. Very unexpected. The build-out is a gorgeous modern classic, everything you would expect from Medure. There is a bar area with a large selection of medium to high-end whiskey/bourbons, gins, wine by the glass and bottle, etc. I ordered a Botanist gin martini with a lemon twist and my husband had a bourbon on a gentleman's cube.
We ordered the beef carpaccio which was fabulous; the short rib with a beautiful glass of Luke(?) Claret and the seafood pappardelle. Both entrees were everything you would expect from Medure. Dessert was dark chocolate bread pudding with a scoop of ice cream - it wasn't a big, heavy dessert which was great at the end of a fabulous meal.
Server, Jess, was wonderful. Service might be a little slow for some people, but I liked not having to rush and being able to enjoy my meal. We decided that we're adding M Bros to our short list of our regular places to go (Azurea, bb's, Biscotti's, JC Fish Camp). Excellent food, wonderful atmosphere, and quiet so we were able to talk. It's...
