No Way Jose Mexican Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Jacksonville

We were one of two tables in the place and service was incredibly slow. Our server had approached our table a total of three times and never asked about appetizers so our queso orders were ordered when we ordered the meal. The original chip basket that came out with salsa had maybe 15 chips and we had three people had the table. We had to wait 10 min or so between the server approaching again, even when there were empty drink glasses sat at the end of the table.What I ordered included the Birria and needless to say I will never eat here again. The birria was hardly seasoned at all—it tasted like a greasy chuck roast I had as a kid to the point I had a difficult time eating my meal and ended up only eating 20% of it before paying and leaving. And to wrap up, I found everything to be extremely over priced. My meal itself was $16.99 but once you moved things around on the plate it was clear the portion was small; additionally a small queso is quoted on the menu at 5.99 but when the check comes and it breaks down the pre tax itemized price of each thing , the queso says $6.48 which is a questionable business practice to falsely advertise the pricing. Between the shockingly slow service, cold queso that was ordered with the meal, and the quality/flavor of food —I would not recommend this place to anyone for any reason. Stumbled into this gem of a restaurant by “happy accident”. As we pushed the double doors open a cool draft of high powered air conditioning kissed my face, relieving the hot summer sun from my body. The restaurant was cool and cozy, they have an outside patio, and a big banquet style section. It was so inviting, clean and kid friendly inside as well. Monte, our waiter was more than accommodating and punctual, he was friendly and showed us much hospitality. We all know the chips and dips are deal breakers in the Mexican restaurants, and No Way Jose did not disappoint. Absolutely delicious chips and salsa and the queso blanco, my personal favorite was phenomenal. My wife and I ordered the Birria tacos meal, and let me just say I fully recommend this meal. The Birria taco meals tasted immaculate and were filling, we were able to take the rest for dinner later. When the check came, the price did not break the bank. Also we were not rushed out, we were offered everything possible to go to be completely content. Support your local business, a family owned business at that and give No Way Jose a try!
