We visited Syriana Grill the week of July 4th. Originally we had chosen a different restaurant for dinner but the more I read the reviews about Syriana Grill I just knew we needed to change our plans and I am so happy we did.
We ordered the humus with falafel, chicken shawarma, chicken shish and lamb kabob. I’ve had my fair share of falafel and this the absolute best I’ve ever eaten. So fluffy and flavorful. Not dense and hard to swallow. The hummus has just the right consistency and I love that there is more of a lemon forward note. Absolutely stunning platter. The chicken shawarma was moist and tender served with fries. Our platters of chicken shish and lamb kabob could not have been any better. Chicken can dry out quickly but these were so tender, juicy and absolutely bursting with flavor. Crispy bits along the edges. Lamb kabobs cooked medium rare just as I ordered. I have steakhouses that can’t get the cook right on a steak and yet the lamb pieces were perfectly cooked even though they were different sizes. A testament to the skill of the chef.
Portion size was amazing and I ate every last piece of lamb. There’s a refreshing side salad served with the entrees that’s a mixture of tomatoes, cucumbers and a light dressing of olive oil and lemon. Rice is also included on the platter. These could be shared if your appetite isn’t as intense as ours was.
What really makes this experience special is the hospitality you feel from the server and the chef. It’s the heart and soul they put into their food and it shows. At the end of the meal we were served baklava and sweet cake that seemed to have rose water in it. So light and simple. Just enough to quench the sweet tooth we didn’t know we had that evening.
This is our new favorite restaurant in Jacksonville and we plan on trying the buffet the next time we are in Jacksonville. I literally crave the food weekly. It’s unfortunate it’s not closer or maybe that’s a blessing. Lol.
Unfortunately, I didn’t take photos but please know that that’s really not what matters here. All I can say is go there. You will not be disappointed. It’s a no frills local place that feels like home when you’re there. There’s no “vibe” or over the top experience but just excellent food with...
Read moreMy husband and I had dinner tonight at Syriana restaurant on St. Augustine Rd. I had the steak shish, he had the chicken. We split the hummus, which was served with hot fluffy pita bread. The hummus is excellent, creamy, not watery, the right amount of tahini, to enhance the nuttiness of the garbanzo beans, not overloaded with lemon juice, or garlic. The meat was tasty, and tender, the rice was good, not dry or overcooked. The salad had fresh mint, very refreshing on a hot day. Service was good, without hovering. We left full, with leftovers. There was a buffet that looked excellent, but we'd had a long day, and the thought of walking the few steps to the buffet wasn't happening. Food was reasonable, my plate was $14.95, my husband $12.95, and the hummus I...
