As long time patrons we walked out of the Boulevard Family Restaurant this past week disgusted, upset and beyond disappointed. It began with being seated at a table that felt "tacky". I mentioned this to the waitress who said she would clean it up for us. I laughed and said the people before us must have had pancakes because the table feels like its covered in syrup. She said no, that we were the first ones to sit at that particular table that morning. (hmm?) A couple minutes later my husband said to me, ok don't get upset but I have insects running around on my side of the table. I looked over and saw 4-5 tiny insects and then I took a better look at my side and sure enough there was about 8-10 tiny insects! We immediately stood up and told the waitress. She said she would clean it up for us and I said I wouldn't sit at the table that she needs to move us. Oh, before I forget. Before any of this started one of the waitresses was in the service area of the kitchen which can be seen from our table and she was putting strawberries on a plate of waffles with whipped cream. Looked good but then i noticed she was doing handling the strawberries with her bare hands... no gloves! Once we were seated at the new table a busboy brought over the coffee we had at the 1st table and I said no, please bring fresh cups. Surely you can understand I didn't want anything from that table??? When breakfast finally came my husband put a piece of kiwi and two slices of watermelon on my plate. The kiwi was soft and had that translucent look that comes when kiwi is sliced and a few days old. The watermelon had dark redness to it which also comes from being sliced and a few days old. The only fruit in his bowl that looked ok were the blueberries. I told him not to eat it that we'll return it. The other thing on his plate that was less than appealing were his home fries. They were underdone and shiny from being too greasy. I actually reached over with my fork and tasted a bit... greasy and tasteless :( When the waitress brought the bill over I asked her to have the manager come to the table. We waited, no kidding, 15 minutes for him to come over. I told him what our experience was and asked him to adjust the bill accordingly. The waitress came back with the amended bill about 5-10 minutes later and there was a $5.00 adjustment! I told her no, that was not acceptable and asked her to have the manager come back. He came back with a huge attitude asking what the problem was. I told him $5.00 was not enough that amount was unacceptable (i think the fruit was $2.99?) With a huuuuge attitude he asked what we wanted and I said I think deducting one of the dishes was more along the lines of fairness. (actually if this was my business I would have appologized profusely and tore the bill up) When we went to the front to pay the manager the bill he took it and didn't return so my husband shrugged his shoulders and said he must have torn the bill up because he's not coming back so we walked out to the car. The manager came running out to the car accusing us of trying to leave without paying. I was mortified that someone would think that of me and very embarrassed. He handed my husband the amended bill (from $28 it was reduced to $16 or so) To say the very least this experience ruined our morning, eliminated a restaurant we've enjoyed going to in the past, and left us with hearts full of aggravation. Amazing how a poorly handled situation by "management" can destroy a...
Read moreSometime last year after church, my family and I were looking for a family style restaurant that served breakfast in the afternoon. We spotted the Boulevard Family Restaurant on the way home, it's located on Little Rd, between Ridge and Massachusetts. By the time we got there, it was almost near their closing time, so I went in first to make sure they would still seat and serve us. Immediately, one of the owners (Husband & Wife team) said, "absolutely, please come in!" We're a family of 5 with 3 children (12, 11 and 6). The interior decor, cleanliness and layout far exceeded any other restaurant that we've been to in the area. You have to see the giant chalkboard that the owner's hand wrote and drew on, listing many of their specialties. The menu didn't disappoint and offered an extensive selection of breakfast and lunch favorites. Our waitress was friendly and never made us feel hurried even though it was near closing. After ordering, my son noticed a TV up in the corner and asked me if it was possible to watch the Sprint Cup race that had just started. I told him it wasn't likely but I would ask anyway. Not only did the owner allow it, but he personally came over to our table and handed my son the remote! (maybe it was because it was near closing time, but that was very kind) Anyway, our food arrived quickly, cooked to order and hot off the grille or griddle. My son and oldest daughter had an enormous grilled chicken Cesar salad that is served in an edible shell. My wife, youngest daughter and I had waffles, an omelet and eggs. By the end of our meal it was 15 minutes past closing. Again, not once did we feel rushed. On the contrary, we were made to feel welcome, to relax and enjoy. Good food, amazing service and an atmosphere that's clean and welcoming. We've been back here many times now and is truly our favorite...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to try this place this morning for breakfast because we were given a gift certificate. We walked in and the waitress was very friendly and fast. We ordered our drinks and food. The waitress brought our drinks right away. As we were sitting there waiting on our food I was going to put sugar in my coffee and noticed that the sugar container was full of ants crawling around in it. I asked my husband to grab one off of another table and it also was crawling with ants, the lids to the sugar containers were also black and crusty like they have never been cleaned or wiped down. Then we looked at the salt shaker and it had black stuff in the salt and the lid had crusted food on it. I see this is a problem that has never been rectified because I see past reviews about ants and bugs. So, I had my husband go to the car and get salt packets that we had in our car because I wasn't going to use that salt. So, we were sitting there looking at the ants crawling around in the sugar and the food crusted on the salt shaker and the gnats flying around and the more we looked at it, I thought to myself if this is the reflection of what the kitchen looks like I don't want to eat here. We got up and told the waitress about all the ants, bugs, and crusted shakers and told her we were leaving. She just said, well your food is almost ready. I said, I am not eating here. She apologized and we left. I don't think they will fix the situation because I saw a review on here from 6 months ago about ants in the sugar and bugs. This is common sense restaurant 101, all waitresses know that you always check the shakers and wipe them down and clean them. The fact that management is not making them do it let's me know what kind of restaurant this is. It is unacceptable. We will...
