Buenavista Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Jasper

Mediocre food and sub-par, unsat service. I've ~500 reviews and less than 3% of them are bad--this is one of 'em, regrettably. I could deal with the rickety, dingy interior atmosphere if, at the end of the day, the food was good, but not only was it barely so-so (and I had high hopes with a hankerin' for some poblanos...my wife's veggie quesadilla was pitiful ), but the service was abysmal--to wit the young dude w/ curly hair who was, at 3:30pm with only 3 tables sat, overwhelmed and on the struggle bus. Waited for seating, waited for orders, waited for food, waited for drinks after 10min of eating chips and he couldn't even get that right: "water no ice and a sweet tea please" became a warm tea for me and no drink for my wife, period. And it only got worse, even though 20 min later 2 females tried to do damage control by hustling and being friendly. Another 2 minutes and we were going to slap down money for the drinks and walk out--I kid you not. The only silver-lining is the cheap prices...but you get what you pay for, and I for one would never...

I hate to make such a bad review I literally LOVED this restaurant but today we decided to go eat here myself, my wife and our youngest. The atmosphere was super off, we weren’t walked to our table like we used to to be, we weren’t greeted with smiles, no one even looked like they enjoyed being there. There was only one table full when we got there and we ordered before anyone else had came in, well 2 people came in and literally got their food within 15 minutes of ordering meanwhile we waited for an hour, when they finally brought our food out they brought my wife’s first 5 minutes later mine then 10 minutes later our daughters the food wasn’t good at all, our server was rude from the get go and just honestly continued to get rude the poor man behind us they got his food wrong he wanted no rice, then I sat and watched our server and his server literally talking crap all because he said I asked for no rice but everything else looks fine. Definitely won’t be back this is not the same place...

Stopped in for lunch today. Ordered a tamale, chile relleno, taco, and chiles toreados. Also ordered salsa picosa for my chips. Dining area was clean. Salsa picosa was just right on spice. Hard shell taco was average (but all hard shell tacos are). The tamale was very good. The masa was a little thick, but it wasn't dry because they offer it topped with beef or chicken in red sauce. It had a great flavor. The chile relleno was tasty. It was cooked fork tender and the sauce was great. The cheese on the inside was a little thickzero but it wasn't off-putting. I do like a little meat in mine and this was only cheese, but it was tasty. The chiles toreados were cooked tender (many places undercook the jalapeños and leave them too crunchy, but not here). It was served with grilled onions and lime slices just how I like. Service was very polite, helpful, and friendly. I was very happy with the staff. I'll definitely be visiting again...
