Joe's is a Chicago legend.
The former location at 5747 W. Higgins was recently closed and was given a phenomenal new life in the old Wall's Florist Shop at 5862 W. Higgins.
Owners Frank and Gina Demonte have created a glorious diamond in the neighborhood. The restaurant is an entirely fresh, sparkling concept in design that would rival any hotspot on Michigan Avenue or Lincoln Park. The menu has also been trimmed into a sophisticated selection of wonderful contemporary dishes yet keeps many classic, traditional rustic favorites that made Joe's such an icon in the area since the early fifties.
It's amazing what a change of scenery can do to turn an already iconic dining establishment into a modern, luxurious experience. The space is sexy, inviting and refined on all levels and is the ideal place to relax and enjoy a cocktail and Italian cuisine at its finest.
A few favorites include the spectacular grilled calamari, stunning Spaghetti Carbonara (which isn't easy to find in many Italian eateries), exceptional Veal Marsala and luscious, tender Pork Chops Calabrese. The chefs make sure everything served is given top-tier attention, and it's easy to see the passion devoted to each dish.
Pizza, of course, is a mainstay and perfectly crafted. They also have a dessert that places Nutella inside a gorgeously cozy-warm pastry dough with chocolate sauce to drizzle on that defies description. Everything served is perfectly realized and presented. The flavors are rich, exciting and vibrant when they need to be and elegantly subtle when they need to be.
There is a full selection of beers, wines and specialty drinks which are sure to please every taste.
The waitstaff are also great --- knowledgeable, respectful and very much in-tune to providing exceptional customer service.
This beautiful Italian restaurant called Joe's celebrates undeniably the love of family and friends from the moment one enters. It's rare to find this in this day and age. Because of it, it's worth going there again and again to savor and appreciate terrific cuisine and...
Read moreService was not good. From the time we walked in on a Sunday night, we were greeted by the gum chewing manager with a "Two?" The waitress was friendly and smiled however I belive they were understaffed because she was not there to do follow ups on our order that was taken by the manager . In fact she asked us for our order several minutes after it was taken. She did take our initial drink order however the drink was not made correctly. When I told the manager that it was not made correctly (as verified by my date ) he proceeded to tell me the ingredients. I've have drank and prepared behind several Negrois. I know how they're made. (Too much sweet vermouth) Our appetizer ( Grilled seafood)was delicious. could have been hotter but we were still eating it when our pizza came. I noticed that the table next to us had the same happen to them. They did serve the other table a ceaser salad with the dressing on the side in a 2oz plastic side cup. I hope thats not the norm. The tiramisu was very good. Realy no problem with the food it was all good . The service was not. They were also slow in cleaning tables and floors after guest left especially a big table in the middle of the dinning room. I have order delivery several times with no problems so when i ate there for the first time i expected ...
Read moreA Hidden Italian Gem in the Neighborhood – Joe’s on Higgins
I finally made my way to Joe’s on Higgins after hearing my neighbors rave about it, and let me tell you—they were absolutely right! This cozy neighborhood spot serves up some of the best Italian.
I started with a slightly dirty martini with blue cheese olives—perfectly chilled and well-balanced. For an appetizer, I went with the arancini, which were crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and packed with flavor.
For my main course, I had the Lake Superior whitefish in a delicate lemon caper sauce, paired with Vesuvio potatoes that were cooked to perfection—crispy on the edges, soft on the inside, and full of flavor. My friend opted for the veal Parmesan dinner special, which was served with a rich vodka sauce and a side of gnocchi. Each entrée also came with a fresh, crisp salad with homemade dressing that was simply delicious.
To top it off, they brought out warm Italian bread with an olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and Parmesan cheese dipping sauce—an absolute treat.
From start to finish, everything was fantastic. The service was friendly and attentive, the ambiance was warm and inviting, and the food was exceptional. If you’re in the area and love Italian cuisine, Joe’s on Higgins is a must-visit!
