We arrived at the restaurant and stood for 10 ish min waiting for the hostess to acknowledge us and finish with someone picking up an order in front of us. I asked for a table for 4 (2 adults a teenager and an 8yr old) She asks if we have reservations , I said no is that mandatory? She says after huffing in discomfort… it’s like a 45-1 hr for seating … I said ok may we look at a menu and place our names.
She said sure if u want u can order and do take out its way quicker.. I said oh ok.. we could do that… how long for food only to be ready? she said 45-1hr
I said umm ok we would like to just sit down and eat here then.. since all the time will be the same…
She said oh well we close at 9… I said ok so we will be seated in 45-1hr making it 8:15… I can tell you what we want now and then when a table is ready we can sit at a table with a server when it’s ready… we will have drinks at the bar and wait… our turn…
She said I can’t do that… and stares at me.. like i just asked for an organ transplant..
I said which part?
She said we will sit you if you want to wait but we can’t serve you cause we close at 9.. we don’t take orders any where around an hr or so before we close… there’s just not enough time..
I said ok so u don’t serve anyone after 8:15? We can place the order now and when it’s done in 45-1hr we will most likely be being sat and can have our food and drinks from a server and enjoy a table..
She said no… we close at 9….
I said so why not just tell me your closed now and no longer taking people … or orders…
She said we are open though… you can order Togo?
I said … 45-1hr for the next available table makes it with in an hr of closing and you said no one can order at that time .. so all of us standing here will be hanging out getting to know one another and then still be hungry in an 45-1 hr… ??? And not get to order.. and if we order we can’t pay you because you close at 9 and you don’t serve anyone an hr or so before closing…
She just looked at me and said .. umm oh well… So I responded Oh. Well 😃 here’s ur menus and we can eat else where.. we own a home here and rent it out while we are gone.. we have your selection on the fridge but will be removing it and biting it’s not the best place to come to eat though it’s across the street from our home/vacay rental… we have eaten here 4 plus times each time we are here for last 23 years 3-4 times a year…. And now we find a new place to be our go to for the next 23 years… and share that with our family friends and renters…. I do hope you have a great night!
As I left the group of 5 behind us asked if that was true and she said yah.. they left also .. a group outside waiting said .. wow as we discussed it with the strangers that where behind us.. and they went in and took their name off the list and left as well. Our family has supported this restaurant through Covid before Covid after Covid before Covid was a thing.. more years than we can count… and have experienced some low quality servers and staff before but have always let it slide and never complained. But this tops the cake . She was rude , rolled her eyes, scoffed at my questions (questions only confirming what information she gave) and slammed around doing busy work while I spoke to her .. no hostess would have been better than this one. As a person who was a server for many years I’d be very displeased to know that 11 people left that could have given me a decent if not great tip during my shift just so that this woman could get out of work by 9… she was a heavy set woman dark almost black hair in a bun greasy-ish hair , black shirt .. and a bad attitude . She did try to act like she was doing the world a favor by being herself, but I can assure you that she’s not winning anyone over with her charm.
Just extremely disappointed in my favorite restaurant… as...
Read moreWe were staying at the adjacent Holiday Inn, so it was convenient to walk over for Sunday brunch, It’s hard to fail at brunch, but they managed.
First, long line at hostess stand, plenty of empty tables but no hostess in sight. We eventually learned the dour looking lady wiping tables was the hostess, however she went about her table-wiping duties without a greeting or so much as a glance at the families crowding the entrance.
When she finally acknowledged our party, she left again to wipe another table for our seating. No “hello” or “good morning,” nothing. She seated us and left immediately. Several minutes later she came back to inform us it was buffet service only and took our beverage orders. We were not informed of the cost.
We sat for 15 mins until our server arrived- a very cheerful, friendly woman- who asked us what we wanted to drink. We let her know we had already placed our order with the hostess. “She probably forgot” was her reply. We went to the buffet line and discovered there were no plates. Eventually someone brought out a stack of extremely hot plates which were difficult to handle and I decided not to put fresh fresh fruit on them for fear of cooking it.
The items on the buffet were what one would expect from a Hilton free breakfast buffet: trays of grits, scrambled eggs, sausage, limp undercooked bacon, yogurt, and a few packaged pastries. No juice or other beverages on the buffet. We were well underway with eating when our drinks finally arrived. Our cheerful server promised she’d be back to check on us. Call me an optimist?
We saw no one else for the duration. We had long finished eating when the dour lady came by doing her table wipe thing. Couldn’t get her to make eye contact so I finally had to say, “excuse me Ma’am, could we please get the check?” She told us she’d try to find our server. More time passes and Cheerful arrives with the check only now informing us the price for 2 meals was $34. At no time were we told the price of the buffet before we ate. Frankly, had we known the cost of the mediocre (being generous) food, we would have gone somewhere else.
Only positive thing about the experience was the nice view of the ocean from the screened in...
Read moreWe have been wanting to try this place out the past few times we’ve visited Jekyll, but the wait time has always been outrageous! We decided to do a reservation for 7:00 tonight. We arrived at the restaurant at 6:50. We went inside and were told by the hostess that even though we had a reservation, we’d have to wait until about 7:15. When we were seated, we waited FORTY minutes before we were even asked what we’d like to drink. We had not even met our server. I actually had to go back to the hostess to request a server. Our drinks and appetizer came in pretty good time, but it took a while to actually place our order. The menus were never picked up from our table, and our food seemed to take forever to arrive. Once it finally arrived, each of us had food except my 9 year old daughter…the one who seemed to be hungrier than the rest of us. Our server blamed it on the kitchen saying, “The kitchen must’ve read the ticket wrong.” She told us that my daughter’s chicken tenders would be out in a minute. She came back after about ten minutes and said that they had just dropped the chicken in the fryer and that she’d have them out soon. That turned into what seemed like thirty minutes. I was not going to sit and eat in front of my little child when she had no food to eat. So…I waited. I told my other daughter and her friend to go ahead and eat. By the time we got my 9 year old’s food, mine was cold. Not only was it cold, it ended up being a frozen hamburger patty that they’d burnt before giving it to me (even though I ordered medium well). The server asked if we needed anything else. I told her that my older daughter needed another lemonade. She said ok but ended up forgetting about it until my daughter was about finished with her food. It was an overall horrible experience. We finally left the restaurant after OVER TWO hours. As we walked out, we noticed an inspection score of a C. I guess this should’ve been a red flag had we noticed it ahead of time. It was definitely a waste of about a...
