Booked & attended a reservation here with the immediate family, my favorite people to dine with. I was looking for a convenient location that offered a nice atmosphere and acceptable food + service for the occasion. With this being our 5th or 6th visit, we knew the experience could be inconsistent, but anticipated it would check the boxes for a Wednesday night. Unfortunately it was the least favorite experience we’ve had yet. Service was okay but doesn’t equate to the overall cost. For the price, I would have expected the table to be tidied up more post-appetizers. This effort was acceptable during previous visits, but this visit any light crumbs were left. It’s a small effort to ‘scrape the cloth’ and tidy up and meets the level provided by those I assume you view as your area competitors (ex. Mahogany’s & RC at River Spirit). All in all, not a big deal but inconsistent and somewhat surprising. The appetizers themselves were okay, a bit pricey for a slice of bacon, but it tasted good. The crab cake was okay… too much sauce for our tastes, but met avg standards. We ordered 1/2 dz oysters and they brought the full dz but we accepted them and the addtl cost w/o commenting… no real harm, and they were all eaten. We ordered drinks with appetizers, and I always find their Old Fashioned to be one of the better ones around Bixby and Jenks areas (RR as well).. The entree portion is really where things went south. The steak frites my wife ordered was room temperature at best so we politely brought it to their attention - these things can happen. When they returned with the same plate, the food and plate was appropriately hot, but the steak had obviously now been overcooked. In addition, the mac & cheese was cold (not room temperature), but unfortunately we hadn’t tried it at the same time as the steak frites so we didn’t discover it until after they left to correct the steak frites. We politely brought it to the server’s attention, again stating that these things can happen. The manager came over twice - (1) to apologize for the inconvenience and explained she’d proactively had them remake our m & c before it came out the first time, but I’m not sure how this addressed how the dish ultimately came out cold. Left the explanation alone and moved on. (2) She came back over after the steak frites came back out, and I explained that, while it was a good temp, the med rare my wife ordered was now obviously med well. At this point she began offering explanations (that were coming off to me as excuses) around difficulties with timing…? I honestly didn’t understand or accept the explanations and suggested again that these things can happen and she should just end the conversation. At this point we just preferred to move along and enjoy the time left chatting with family. The manager did remove the cost of the steak frites and also brought a McNellies gift card, despite my repeated statements that we didn’t need any comps or gift cards. I was clear that I only wanted to provide detailed feedback in an effort to improve in the future. It was a bad experience, accept the feedback and let the night move on, but please don’t attempt to justify the bad experience. The rest of the meal I’d call acceptable but not worth the price to be honest. I’m coming in as someone who legitimately wants to see them succeed. I want more options and want to see local areas thrive. The burger is always a hit with us but for overall quality and experience, it just seems to consistently fail our expectations. I’ve had steak here 3 times and each time I’ve told myself that next time I’d drive the extra 15 mins to a competitor, and while I 100% appreciate the manager’s gestures and effort, I should have listened to...
Read moreCame here for my fiancé’s birthday and made sure both the host and our server knew we were celebrating. The server greeted him with “Happy Birthday” when we sat down, but that was it. No dessert menu, no candle, nothing at the end of the meal—just, “Do you want anything boxed up?” and then the bill.
Drinks started the disappointment. I ordered a martini and it came in a shot glass (yes, you read that right—a shot glass!!). What martini drinker wants that at a white tablecloth restaurant? Horrible presentation. It came with one olive that was supposed to be stuffed with blue cheese, but it was completely hollow. I even checked the glass to see if it fell in—nope, nothing. Sent it back and ordered a Postino instead, which was actually delicious.
Appetizers started strong with bone marrow—rich and flavorful. But the entrées were all over the place. We had whipped potatoes, creamed spinach, white beans, a filet, and a ribeye. The potatoes were okay, but the dried breadcrumbs on top got soggy and ruined the texture. The creamed spinach was the worst I’ve ever had—funky taste, wouldn’t recommend. The white beans were the surprising highlight of the whole night. Sadly, everything except the spinach came out cold, including both steaks.
Ambiance was just okay. Lighting was too bright for dinner, and the low-volume pop music didn’t fit the vibe of a steakhouse.
Overall, the Postino cocktail, bone marrow, and white beans were great, but the service and execution were nowhere near what I’d expect from a nice steakhouse—especially on a special occasion and at this...
Read moreI think they have a great concept here. Great atmosphere and look, though a little loud with two live music bars on either side, plus the music played by the restaurant. Our server was great. Attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and personable. We tried the calamari appetizer. Flavor and breading and the sauce they serve with it were perfect. But the calamari itself was overdone and chewy like rubber bands. The manager was very gracious and apologetic about this, and honestly it's a difficult thing to get exactly right. Especially the first few stress packed days of a restaurant opening. We both went with the Icelandic salmon, medium. Scalloped potatoes au gratin and spicy greens. The salmon was phenomenal. It's been years since I had salmon so melt-in-your-mouth, and perfectly flavorful. Potatoes were probably the second star, I didn't want to stop eating them. Amazing. The greens were very tart, more vinegar than I've ever had in them, and the spice was more than I was expecting, but it may appeal to someone else. I'm just particular about collard greens. Overall, good experience, but I couldn't do 5 stars across the board. We probably won't revisit in the near future, as there are comparable restaurants around (not with that salmon though...that was amazing) at a lower...
