Yama Seafood — Restaurant in Jersey City

Been ordering all our fish/seafood from Yama Seafood since Covid started, and it's been amazing. Yama Seafood used to only supply the highest quality tuna to high end Sushi restaurants in Manhattan (check the WSJ article if you're curious) so it goes without saying that the quality is unlike what you can get from standard retailers. We're a fish-loving household, and as much as we are heartbroken for the restaurant industry that's been hard hit by Covid, their loss is truly our gain. I recommend the Grade A or B tuna, which come to you in fat, translucent, ruby-red chunks that you can't help but photograph before eating. For the adventurous, I recommend ordering a whole salmon to descale and breakdown yourself. It will take you about 2 hours, and you will hate yourself as you work, but you're not going to find fresher salmon unless you catch one yourself.

PS: The price is amazing, especially considering the quality...

Of course, Yama Seafood prides itself on its fine fish, uni/sea urchins (when in season), both Japanese and Russian, superb cuts of lean, medium, and fatty tuna, excellent Ikura, many a kind of Tobico, lobster tails of very impressive size, Arctic surf clams, cuttlefish, numerous varieties of shrimp, and sashimi-grade scallops (hotate), but also Japanese specialities such as tamago (cooked egg), premium sushi nori (seaweed), sushi rice, brown rice tea or Japanese sparkling water are equally offered. Made an order for a birthday party.

Packaging is perfect, I had an email notification to track and a ETA that was accurate. Everything was individually wrapped and the ice packs were frozen solid. Multiple layers of insulation from the box itself to the fish.

Customer service was also above and beyond. I had made a small mistake in my order and they were highly responsive and quick to resolve. I appreciate how communicative and knowledgeable they were. Many thanks again.

The uni I ordered was fantastic, couldn't help but sneak a few pieces as I opened the package. Debated if I should have kept it all to myself or share...
