An awesome little Mexican diner for a fast, delicious meal.
We were on the way to Wimberly for some Zipline adventures, and we wanted to eat breakfast and have time for it to settle before we started hiking. This little diner in Johnson City seemed to fit the bill.
I got the Chorimigas, which is Migas with chorizo. It was awesome! The eggs had a healthy mix of onions and peppers. The refried beans were smooth and filled the tortillas quite nicely.
Breakfast was served with two homemade sauces. Not gonna’ lie, the tomatillo sauce had some heat to it. I passed on it, since I fully expected to chow down fast, and that tomatillo sauce would have seriously slowed me down.
The other sauce was a more typical salsa. It had a bit of a smoky note to it and not too spicy. Of course, as I’m finishing my meal, I realized I was sweating just a bit. Ok, so the red salsa had a tiny bit of a kick; it was just perfect.
Service was quick and friendly. Be sure and check this place out when you drive through...
Read moreUpon entering the restaurant I was greeted immediately by the staff. I noticed the sign that said seat yourself so I did period within one minute of being seated the waitress was already taking my drink order and handing me a menu. The coffee that I ordered was excellent. I ordered the huevos rancheros with an extra egg over medium, a side of barbacoa, and two pancakes. Unfortunately the refried beans were lukewarm at best. As a matter of fact, all of my food was not hot. The Barbacoa was not greasy which I was a very appreciative of, but it was lacking in flavor. The tortillas were homemade, the flour tortillas that is. The waitress states that the corn tortillas are bought. The pancakes were great. I would have given this rating of 5 if my food would have been hot as for the atmosphere, there was Mexican music playing in the background to set the mood. The staff and I'm assuming the owner were very friendly. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal, I just...
Read moreWe ate there on a Saturday evening recently while on a mini- vacation/ BD trip to the Hill country. The meat on my wifes plate( Tacos al Carbon) was literally" tough as a bone". She tried to soften it up with their green sauce to no avail. I didn't want it either, so what a waste ! My chile- relleno contained the worst pablono pepper I'd ever had, an thats a whole lot through the years, aa well as a doughy crust.Thats my fave Mexican dish, so I consider myself a connoiseur of this particular type of order. My rice an refried beans came out cold as well. Not sure if the employees/ cook was having a bad day or what, but it was a very sub- standard place to eat an my wife and I have ruled out ever going back there on future trips...
