I recently visited Cemeno’s Pizza with my family, hopeful for a pleasant dining experience. Despite the restaurant being approximately 80% full upon our arrival, we were promptly seated, which initially seemed promising. However, our optimism was short-lived.
As we settled in, it became increasingly apparent that our presence was being overlooked by the service staff. Despite multiple waitresses passing by our table, none stopped to take our order. In contrast, several parties that arrived after us received immediate attention. This selective neglect left us feeling sidelined and compelled us to question the reason behind such disparity in service.
It’s disheartening to speculate, but I couldn’t help but feel that our being the only Latino family in the restaurant that evening played a role in the treatment we received. The lack of acknowledgment and service solely to us created an unwelcoming atmosphere, one that we had sensed from the moment we entered.
Before departing for another dining establishment, I expressed my concerns to the host, hoping the message would be relayed to the management. It’s my genuine hope that sharing this experience will prompt Cemeno’s to reflect on and improve their service and hospitality practices, ensuring that all patrons, regardless of their background, are treated with the respect and attentiveness they deserve.
To those considering Cemeno’s Pizza for their next dining experience, especially those from the Latino community, it might be worth noting our experience. A restaurant’s ambiance is not solely built on its decor and menu but also on the inclusiveness and warmth extended to...
Read more❌I absolutely DO NOT recommend them for banquets or parties. It's been nothing but a headache.❌ Tried to book Cemenos Pizza for my daughter's second birthday. Originally, I wanted a banquet room like we had when we celebrated our youngest's baptism (which was an AMAZING experience). I was told that because we only had 25 people (they have a 30 person minimum) and wanted to order outside of their "party package" I wouldn't be able to book a room. However, I could reserve a spot in the dining room. Okay, fine, that's annoying but we've always had good food and service so fine. They requested I place my order at least 24H prior to the event. So, I just called today and start placing the order- almost the EXACT same that we ordered in AUGUST. Only to be told that they couldn't accommodate me ordering pasta in bulk from the catering menu because "when people order food here, we factor in the prices of the staff, and keeping the lights on. It's different prices if it's catering you're taking to your home. You can order a couple platters to share." ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW? I have an order for 5 Pizzas, drinks, and obviously will tip but they can't accommodate a pan of pasta with sausage because they won't make enough money off my $300+ order?!?! I'm appalled.
The manager checked with the owner who suddenly "had already left" when I asked to speak directly with them. I'm so aggravated and disappointed. We've always had great experiences which is why we keep going back for celebrations. Now I'm scrambling to figure out party details for literally tomorrow. This has been SO stressful, I would NOT recommend it...
Read moreI've eaten at plenty of Italian restaurants, having lived in the city of Chicago my whole life. But we moved to Joliet last year and I really missed the family owned, made from scratch comfort food. Tonight was the first time I've been to Cemeno's and this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review for a restaurant. I ordered the manicotti, my husband ordered the lasagna, and my daughter ordered a personal pizza with pepperoni added (kids meal). We all finished every single bite! No leftovers! And they were not small plates. The food was just that good! My daughter is one of those kids that nibbles at food like a mouse, and she devoured every bite, crust and all. This is officially a new family favorite. We will definitely be coming back again and again with more family!
The only complaint was my husbands, and that was about the environment. We were sat in the skybox. It is a very busy dining area with many televisions, the bar in sight but separated well, and many guests. There were 3 large parties of 15+ each just during our 1 hour stay. So it is loud and bustling. I was not bothered by this so I'm leaving it at 5 stars, but I thought it would be something to add. The other side which I'm assuming was more like your typical stylish restaurant was closed and the skybox was the only side open. So if you're looking for a place for a romantic date with candle light and soft music during the middle of the week, go elsewhere or order to-go. But if you're looking for good food with family, definitely sit down and enjoy. I believe the other side is only open on...
