Doña Concha Bakery — Restaurant in Joliet

DO NOT order your wedding cake from here. All of my wedding vendors were easy going and aware of how stressful wedding planning can be. The owner of this bakery could not have cared less about the stress he was causing me. I ordered my cake about a year before my wedding. Once it got closer to my wedding date I had to contact them to make sure all was well. I was then informed that the girl I originally planned my cake with no longer worked there so I had to go in and go over all the details again with someone else. Everything that I said we had planned she said he charges way more for that now. This included, cake flavor, delivery, literally every single thing I had already arranged was more now. I was also asked to pay my balance about 3 months before my wedding date because he needed the money to order the supplies. Yes the bakery needed to order baking supplies for my cake 3 months in advance? Because that makes a lot of sense, but I paid. So the following day to no one’s surprise they call me to tell me that my balance has gone up by $50 because the owner changed the prices. While I was not surprised based on the comments the lady made while I was telling her what my cake should look like, I was still horrified at the fact that someone would run a business in that fashion. When you agree on a price a year out, the price should not change. At the end of the day it was $50 so whatever, but then the next week I get a phone call again and the lady is telling me that the owner said if I don’t come pay the $50 balance he’s not going to make my cake. Every single vendor I worked with had me pay my balance a week before, but I now have the owner threatening to not make my cake 3 months before because I owe him $50 because he changed the prices. I have never been treated so badly for $50. He refused to come to the phone or speak to me at all. He is completely unprofessional. I would never again trust his business with such an important part of my day. If you want a stress free wedding planning process, and to feel reassured that all is going well this is not the business...

I will NOT be returning to this place! The bread is good BUT super expensive AND the cashier lady there continues to handle the bread with her bare hands. She uses her hand to put the bread on the tongs and places it in the bag🤦🏼‍♀️, no gloves or nothing and the owner standing right next to her. This is the second time that this happens and if this is what they do in front of you imagine what they do...

The bread be stale! We got 3 cakes in total. A large tres leches cake that was not tasty, we also got a smaller one off the display that was suppose to have filling, it did not. the original vanilla was so dry and bland !! none of the cakes were good. Even the churros were hard as rock. It’s really not top 500 bakeries. Never...
