I've been going to Blue's Cafe for as long as I can remember. I remember going there with my family for breakfast. I remember my parents' waking my brothers and I up and telling us we were going to Blue's some Saturdays and of course we got up as fast as we could because we didn't want to miss out on their sausage gravy. Seriously, we always ordered the Blue's Breakfast Muffin with gravy. I've gone there for birthdays, after surgery, and more. I love this place and I still frequently go there with family members when we get to see each other, and I also go there with my now Fiancee whom I insisted have the Blue's experience. It's a family tradition that will not soon end. I'm currently expecting and look forward to the day I get to wake my kid(s) up on a Saturday morning and tell them we're going to Blue's and see the excitement in their eyes.
On a side note, their lemon meringue pie is legendary. You will not see a more impressive meringue on any other pie.
I noticed in some of the reviews that someone said those who like Blue's gravy has not had a good sausage gravy. I've had homemade sausage gravy down south, I've had it made over a campfire and so much more. I still love Blue's sausage gravy and always will. Call me biased but...
Read moreOur 1st time at this place and we will definitely be back again! I had the Chicken BLT sandwich and my spouse had the handmade breaded pork tenderloin. My sandwich was pretty good and filling, made with hand breaded chicken tenders, pepperjack cheese and toasted sourdough. My spouse said that his tenderloin was a little on the thin side but its made in house and still had great flavor to it. He also had a complimentary bowl of homemade beef and barley soup, which he also enjoyed. Normally we don't do dessert, but I know that they are known locally for their homemade pies, and after reading their extensive list of pies that was posted on the wall near our table we knew that we couldn't leave without trying one. We shared a HUGE slice of the Homemade peanut Butter silk and that was an awesome choice to top off our meal at Blue's Cafe. One small note, while we did have a wait before we met our waitress, we were really enjoying the photos all over the wall of historic Kankakee and the days of the local bridges being built over the river. I cannot believe it took me so long to try this place, but now I know that it is totally...
Read moreTraveling through the are and my wife read the reviews and said that we needed to try it out. We love a good breakfast spot, too bad this place is so far away from where we live, I would go here weekly! The cafe is clean and full of old time photos of the area, pretty cool to see. I didn’t take pictures of them as I didn’t want to be rude. Just a cool atmosphere. Now let’s talk about the food. I love a good chicken fried stake and it did not disappoint here, definitely home made (please Don’t tell me if it wasn’t) I had the. Bucked fried stake skillet and it was so delicious! The hash browns were so good! French toast was Amazing! Couldn’t cook it better my self :). My wife had the cinnamon French toast and she said it was so delicious and ate all of it, I didn’t even get a bite. Rude…. Let’s talk about the staff. The staff were very friendly, helpful, attentive, and treated us no different than all the regulars in there. I cannot remember who our server was but the receipt said Ava. Thank you for being so awesome. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves good food and awesome service. Keep up...
